I have been to lots of sushi restaurants run by Korean, Japanese, Chinese (which Sumo is) and others in NYC, Baltimore, DC, Atlanta, LA, Chicago, Miami, Orlando, etc (Over 100s) ranging from 5 Star to 0 star Chinese Buffet serving sushi, even had some in cruise ships in Carnival and NCL, Sumo's craftmanship is a standard, freshness is passable, service the worst and price very over priced. This place is country sushi place without competition charging a high city 3-4 star sushi restaurant price. Food taste was minimal/normal, nothing to praise about, price ridiculous, why? 1) $15 for Udon? R u kidding? it takes, less than.$1.5 to make udon. Anyhow, in a group of 3 adults and 5 kids, this is what we had, $42 Sushi for 2, Don Katsu-$15, Chicken Katsu-$15, Deluxe Sushi Platter (name is very deceiving as there is no sushi only 7 rolls totalling 48 piece) for $64, Shrimp Tempura-$16, Manhattan Roll-$13, Cali roll-$4.50, 2 beer/Kirin-$7.90, 4 Green Tea-$6, soda for total of $185.10. And very unsatisfying and hungry. From the start, I knew things were not going to be good. Ordering that much food, yet because only Sushi for 2 and Katsu came with cheap miso and frozen lettuce salad, they only served 4 when there was 8 of us, no matter where you go, serving Miso soup is a standard, it is only way to ensure you get proper sushi tasting, obviously management being Chinese fail to understand that. Miso soup is not to fill you but to clean and start the palate so you can properly taste the fish. How much does it cost to make a miso soup? $0.25-35. I do admit it is wonder how a person can cut bean curd so little, about a 1/4 inch. This miso wasn't even properly prepared. Miso is prepared with boiling water with seaweed, then add dried bonito flake and then strain it. add miso (bean paste) and hondashi to flavor. Add bean curd and scallion for garnish. This wasn't it. Salad, the lettuce was frozen, carrot dressing wasn't carrot dressing, it was mixture of carrot dressing and peanut like flavor. Katsu, usually is served with veg, but it was served with bed of lettuce and bowl of rice; where is the veg? (either cabbage salad or mix veg) Sushi rice was eatable but not good, standard run of mill sushi place not a true sushi rice, it should have more of zing, don't they know sushi rice needs to be mixed with mirin (rice vinegar)? Fish, barely passable, size? Too thin. Proper sushi should be about 1/4 inch in width, anything less, you are looking at buffet style sushi. For good sushi, I have spent over $100 for two, so $185 is not whole lot but then I had better sushi in Wash DC with more for 2/3 the price. Especially, when they wouldn't serve miso soup with $64 deluxe sushi platter says it all. Yes, I am not happy, because this was worst I had so far, and it will be tough to...
Read moreThis place “ALLEGEDLY” closes at 10pm on a Friday we arrived at 905pm and was immediately greeted with the closing time by the hostess which tells me either they care more about leaving out on time more then they do making profit or their service is very slow RED FLAG RIGHT AWAY…We tried a variety of items the crab wontons, miso soup, the tuna salmon and sweet potato rolls, plus chicken fried rice and chicken veggie tempura. The 3 sushi rolls were all warm and not chilled below room temperature which is a no no when dealing with raw fishes the miso soup was average at best the crab wontons were very good the chicken fried rice was excellent and the chicken veggie tempura was average also. The waiter service was very good but they charged me without telling me .50 each for 2 spicy Mayo which I had to order a 2nd because they only serve you a tablespoon worth. Based on the pricing and food quality this is a low end Japanese Restaurant that’s not appealing and I won’t be returning there’s a lot better in New Castle County...
Read moreI'm only giving Sushi Sumo 3 stars because of the service I received. The sushi is fantastic. I've dined there over a dozen times but this time, I was floored. We arrived just after 9pm and were seated promptly. We placed our order and the food arrived quickly. However, as the clock neared 9:30 the waitress became more passive aggressive towards us. She brought out a takeout container (which I had not requested) and placed it right next to my plate. Then came back a minute later and asked if we wanted the check. Once she brought the check she stood about 10 feet away and turned to stare at me approximately every 30 seconds while I finished my food. I could go on, but you get the gist. I won't be back. They simply could have told us that they were closing soon when we entered. That we were welcome to eat in, but would need to finish by 10 or even 9:55 (we were finished by 9:55 anyway, prior to their posted closing time of 10pm). I couldn't enjoy my meal with the constant interruptions and continued staring. What a...
