My lady and I were driving on the highway heading home from a wine tasting event and wanted ice cream. I just happen to ask Google about a few places and this establishment came up first. The reviews and pictures looked good so we stopped off. I am super glad we did. It is located in the town of Brunswick, MD. Not too much going on in the town but very cute and cozy. The building itself is shared by two separate businesses. Boxcar Burgers and Towpath Creamery. It is an awesome mash up of assorted grocery items, books, home made jewelry and made to order food all in one place. On the left you'll find assorted food items, toiletries, etc. for sale. Then you have a book case with lots of different books for sale next to that. Next to that is a freezer with pints of the oh so delicious ice cream that is served. Then there's is a large cooler with assorted drinks, milk, eggs and the like.
The menu here is simple. Grass fed beef burgers with an assortment of toppings and fries served by Boxcar. The menu is on the fridge behind the counter. My lady and I shared the Boxcar burger. Which at first sounded weird but was fantastic!!! It had lettuce, tomato, beets, havarti cheese and Boxcar sauce. The sauce is an Old Bay mayo. This burger was PHENOMENAL!!!!! I wish we would have ordered another one. Fries were three dollars more. Small cut fries and were tasty. For dessert my lady had the salted caramel ice cream with crushed pretzels and caramel. I went with the dark raspberry frozen yogurt with chocolate chips on a cone. Both were FANTASTIC!!!! A lot of people came in and out during our stay. It is a very popular place and we see why. It is a true gem in the middle of the country. For those who like the outdoors, there are lots of hiking and biking paths right there too. The staff here was super friendly and asked us how everything was. I also like the fact that the business uses biodegradable utensils, bowls, straws etc... to leave as little waste behind as possible. Delicious and ethical!!! By far this was a true treat that we will be going back to again and again! Even though it is an hour drive from our house. Thanks to the great staff here. Hope to see...
Read moreThis review is for the food truck parked at Monocacy brewing in Frederick(couldn’t find where to review that). So glad we passed by and finally tried these burgers! The service number one is really good. The people are kind and get your food out to you as soon as possible. We did two boxcar burgers, side fry and a Brussels sprouts. The burgers were perfectly cooked, pink center and were seasoned nicely. The best part was the red beet they put on it! Would have never thought to, but it worked so well and really added even more meatiness, along with freshness to the burger. One of the better burgers in Frederick. The fries side were also really good. Crispy but not too much, soft center. Went really good with vinegar and ketchup. The Brussel sprouts were okay. They were a little over done, and had way too much sauce on them. Also, it ended up being mostly leaves rather than like quarter/halves of the sprouts. It caused the too much sauce to just be even more over powering since it stick to each little leaf. Over all it was tasty though, I’d try to ask for less sauce next time. The pecans on it were a nice addition. Prices were fine - and better than like five guys with the taste being 100% better. And you get to support a local business. Would...
Read moreNot gonna lie, I've been to this place weekly since they opened! I have yet to be dissatisfied or disappointed. You might say they are pricey, but I'd disagree. There are only a few places (anywhere) that sell a product, that is made from locally sourced ingredients. Yes, for a competitive price as to Five Guys, you can get an overcooked patty with LOADS of fries, but what has Five Guys done for the local farms? Also, with that huge amount of fries you get from the aforementioned, I'd love to hear anyone disagree that the burgers at Boxcar fill you up more! Lastly, what company can beat boxcar on working with the customers? I literally placed an online order with Boxcar, that consisted of a two minute delay due to an order (mozzarella sticks), not coming out right (by their standards). They not only recooked an entire order for me, they also included the others from the first batch that were acceptable (by their standards). One time before this, I had forgotten to put cheese on one burger and they even called me to make sure the order was right. After pointing out my mistake, they gladly, at no extra charge, perfected my order. These are the reasons that I come back weekly! I take care of those who go the extra mile and...
