I had a wonderful experience. The lady taking my order didn't know English very well, but she did understand enough to answer all of my questions. Her young daughter was also working with her and could help with any issues that needed better translation. I was recommended the Torta Costra with bistek. I also ordered an egg & sausage breakfast taco. I was a little surprised when I was charged $2 on top of my order as a credit card fee, but such is business I guess. And it's a small fee to pay to support local and to help out this lovely family.
Also, the credit card machine didn't give me the option to tip, which I was bummed about. Because no one ever has cash and I wish I could have tipped them more than I was able to.
The food was served with an avocado salsa that reminded me a lot of the green sauce from Taco Deli. Almost like they reverse engineered it and now have the recipe themselves. Delicious and a small, well-balanced kick. The breakfast taco was nice and moist. Great flavor and the egg wasn't too dry nor too soggy. Dunno if it's my favorite one in town, but it's a real solid choice. Maybe add a nopales option and I'll revisit this topic :) I wasn't raised with this kind of food, so I don't know how traditional the food was. But I have had my fair share of tortas and I think this is the first one that had a hot dog in it. That said, I absolutely didn't mind, because the texture and flavors were so well-balanced that I absolutely devoured that meal.
My only issues (and these really are so minor) were with the atmosphere. One part was the location. I don't mind it myself, because this food truck is literally 3 minutes from my house-- and I totally understand that starting a business, you can't always pick your ideal locations. But the atmosphere took a little hit being in a dusty lot surrounded by a bunch of U-Hauls and a Tire business. I would feel compelled to explain the atmosphere before we got there, but also, if that was a deterring issue, I'd probably stop talking to the person I was trying to take. This place really is really a hidden gem and I honestly feel bad that their food truck might not be very visible in the location they're in. They were so great! But they really are tucked away in a place I can only imagine doesn't get much business. My complaints aside, they do have a pretty cozy outdoor seating area. And more seating that I usually see for food trucks, so that was also nice.
However, the other atmospheric issue was how dirty/dusty the picnic tables were. Again, it's outside in a dusty area, so what are you going to do? But when I picked up my napkin, the part that was touching the table had a some visible dirt on it. A little dirt never hurt anybody, but it is a little more inconvenient if it's caked onto the table. Considering this, it would also be nice if they had one of those big jugs of hand sanitizer. Didn't really see a place to wash my hands and if the dust bothered me enough, I could at least wipe it down myself with some sanitizer.
That said, I had a lovely experience with the owner and the food was really fantastic. 10/10. I think their current 4.8 is well-deserved.
I thanked the young lady working there and told her that if I grew up with her mother's cooking I would have been so fat :) The food was so delicious and they were really friendly! I had a great experience and I will absolutely be coming back!
Oh, and if the dust bugs you that much, just take your meal to go! Their food is so...
Read moreRandomly drove by and saw the food truck with a large canopy and picnic benches. Menu was hard to follow but the customer service was outstanding! She took her time and explained everything perfectly. It didn't take too long and the food was delicious!! Barbacoa was temperature hot, lots of flavor and the chicken Fajita was full of flavor. They had 3 tacos sauces and all 3 were tasty. In addition... we tried the burrito too. It was stuffed full, hot, and huge! We will definitely be back. Its a long drive but worth it. Thanks for taking care of us with your...
Read moreIf you follow me, you know I don't do a lot of five stars on first visit, but this place is fabulous.
Had egg and chorizo and also pastor, both on flour. Fantastic tortillas. Some of the best in town. Properly warmed before service. Good thickness. Tasty.
Both filling types are great also. Had the green salsa, which she said wasn't as spicy, but still had some good heat.
Really highly recommend.
Came back for pastor and steak fajita. Both...
