Overall: Just an overhyped Southern KFC with forgettable food.
Pros: Hardly any fat on chicken Kind employees Decent packaging for food
Cons: Smaller serving amount Unimpressive fries Little to no options for picky food allergies
Detailed Experience: I have never had Popeyes before, and it was something I was open to trying after seeing the commercials and my sister ranting and raving over how good it is. The family came through the drive through on our way home from a mini vacation and grabbed some chicken.
I have a dairy allergy, so I went online to see if there was anything I could have, and according to the Popeyes website, I could have the naked chicken tenders and Cajun French fries. I just went with that, and since I didn't know what size the tenders would be, I went with a 3 piece.
The bill came to something like 27 bucks, so I'm guesstimating my food was around 6 dollars for my meal. We pull up and are told that we need to wait by the door because of the larger meal we ordered. About 5 minutes later, we get our food, but no ordered drinks. I had to go inside and ask for our drinks. No huge issue, it happens.
Family gets home and we start to dig in. I open up my box, expecting larger chicken tenders like KFC or Applebees, but instead I got these floppy fried strips that reminded me of turkey bacon. I understand that there's no bulk from the crispy chicken because I can't eat it due to my allergy, but it was still off-putting to see three dinky strips of chicken. They were no longer than 3 inches and no thicker than the width of my fingernails. They weren't very fatty though, and in fact I don't think I had any fat in them, so that was really nice to experience, I'll give Popeyes that.
The side of Cajun fries I got with my meal was comparable to the kid's size of a McDonald's Happy Meal. They were floppy, mushy, and barely flavored. Sadly though, it was the kind of mush that wasn't sought after. It was more like they were saturated with water or vinegar and then all the flavor was taken away for the seasoning. No offense, but I'd rather get Rally's or Arby's fries because they were so bland. I had to eat them with my hot sauce for some kind of flavor to make them bareable.
All in all, I was not very impressed with this "amazing" food. Even with the non-fatty chicken, I will not...
Read moreCheck your receipt carefully when you go here. This location charges 22 cents more for the sides on the POS than it does on the menu board. I thought it was suspicious because the price was just raised to $2.43 from $2.21. I noticed the price today on the board was still the same but I was being charged $2.65 on my receipt. Did some cellphone math and realized that based on the $2.43 price, with tax, it should be $2.58, so the price on the receipt definitely was incorrect and before tax. Tax is added at the bottom, the item prices are all before tax. I've worked in restaurants, I know how these things work. When I brought this up to the cashier and the manager, they ignorantly claimed the menu board was wrong and that was the price with tax, which I staunchly refuted, pointing out that in the subtotal, that was the price BEFORE tax. The manager didn't even look at me for two seconds before telling the cashier to give me seventy cents, which was what I heard. I got seven cents in my hand and was like, "What's this?" She just walked away like I was some idiot and said that's what I was owed. Even if her terrible math was right, I would have been owed fourteen cents since I had two sides. She didn't even look at the receipt. Doing the math at home, I realize that I should have gotten 46 cents back, just for full disclosure. I couldn't believe this woman was put in charge of a restaurant. They were just giving me the runaround and playing games. Worse yet, the locals were all on her side, yukking it up at me as I took pictures of the menu board and handed back the seven cents even though I was pointing out something that was benefiting them since they were being overcharged too. I'm not surprised at this behavior, it's typical for Saginaw. People are not well-educated here. Pathetic. Must be if I was the first one to actually read the receipt and spot this discrepancy. Good lord.
Hopefully something better opens in this spot when it shuts down like the one in Mount Pleasant. Good riddance. I will not be back, I will stick to Gus's Fried Chicken in Metro Detroit, far...
Read moreFirst time ever writing a negative google review! But seriously I just couldn’t believe the service tonight. In route to drop kiddo off at practice and had left 15 minutes early in order to grab dinner on our way and she choose Popeyes…I’ve only been to Popeyes once before in my life and it was not a good experience then, but when we pulled up I saw that there were no cars in the drive through so naturally, I’m thinking that maybe they will actually be a “fast food” restaurant this time. Boy was I wrong! Ordered one 3 and one 5 piece chicken tender basket, both with fries, with not much surprise they ask us to pull up and park as we wait on “fresh fries.” Meanwhile cars have piled in behind us, all also being asked to pull up and park to wait for their food. As we sit and watch everyone that ordered behind us receive their food and leave I’m beyond confused at how hard it can be to get 2 chicken tender baskets together, finally, after waiting 30 minutes (I honestly would have just pulled away, but $30 for 2 small meals is ridiculous as it is!!!) I went in to ask about our food and the girl behind the counter tells me that I just missed the girl walking it out to me. I was parked right outside the door, no way I would have missed her! I turn and look around and there she is in the dining area holding my bag of food chatting with another co-worker! 😳 I was just baffled!! I grab our food and head to the car because of course my daughter is now going to be 15 minutes late and as she grabs everything out of the bag…no fries 🤯 Seriously, that is what we were told we were waiting on 😡 No one in this place had any ounce of hustle to them, nor were any of them polite/friendly for that matter. Never again will I go to this or probably any Popeyes again! 2/2 for bad experiences is enough for me. If I want to wait 30-40 minutes for food I will go to a nice sit down restaurant, probably pay the same $$, get better food and get all of the...
