Let me talk to you about a little Buffalo sandwich sorcery called Remedy House—a place that doesn’t just serve food, it slaps your taste buds into therapy and sends them home healed.
First up: The “Chicken in the Grass”
Bro. This sammich sounds like a folk song and hits like a Motown classic. You take one bite and suddenly you’re barefoot in a sunlit meadow, running in slow motion toward your childhood dreams. chicken, peppery arugula (the grass, I assume), melty cheese, and some kind of sauce made by what I can only assume is a kitchen witch with a culinary PhD in Comfort.
It’s not just a sandwich. It’s a life reset button. I bit into it and remembered my social security number, my childhood dog’s birthday, and why I stopped dating people who say “moist.” It’s that good.
Now… the Ham and Butter sammich.
You hear that and go, “What in the white nonsense is this?” But then you eat it… and you shut the hell up real quick.
It’s just bread. Butter. Ham. That’s it. No bells. No whistles. No aioli with a backstory. But it tastes like Jesus made you lunch after a long cry. It’s so pure, so criminally simple, that it actually made me question every other sandwich I’ve ever had. Why have I been chewing through $17 deli monstrosities when I could’ve just been eating this humble slab of perfection?
It’s the kind of sandwich that makes you text your mom just to say “I love you.” It's butter and ham, but it's also therapy. It's clarity. It's peace.
Final thoughts:
Remedy House doesn’t make sandwiches. They make core memories. If you don’t go eat there immediately, I will personally judge you from a distance. This place is a national treasure hiding in Buffalo.
11/10. Would emotionally unravel over a ham and butter sammich again.
Oh and the boys there...
Read moreSmall cafe right on the five points off of Utica st. There is limited indoor seating but wasn’t too busy with the snow storm that just hit Western NY. The menu only has two breakfast options. There are various different croissants and scones bakes but I ended up ordering the breakfast sandwich with bacon and garlic aioli sauce. It seems strange the bacon and sauce are charged as extra add ons and felt like the amount of sauce was quite stingy. The cortado tasted very good (on the lighter side of medium roast) but it was served far too warm and milk texture was subpar. The first bite of the breakfast sandwich lacked much flavor so I asked for salt and pepper and immediately brought out the taste. The staff were somewhat friendly. Unfortunately, they don’t have Wifi so it’s best to find somewhere else if you’re looking for a place to do some work. I tried to find the top cafe in the area which listen this as one but found it to be nothing spectacular. It’s probably a decent place in the summer or if you just want a drip coffee but I would go somewhere else if you’re looking for breakfast or lunch.
I walked across the street to Five Points Bakery and wished I had gone...
Read moreI was excited to try this coffee shop because the atmosphere seemed really inviting. I asked for an iced cortado, which, even if it's not on the menu, most places are usually accommodating especially if they make cortados which this place did. The guy who took my order was nice and said they didn't typically make it but the barista would handle it. However, when he told the barista (a woman with curly dark hair), her reaction was quite off-putting. She looked disturbed, as if she had been asked to make something extremely complicated. My request was a minor modification which involved all the same ingredients for the drink but with ice.
In my experience, good baristas are always friendly and willing to figure things out without making a fuss. After all, one of the goals of any business should be to satisfy its customers. Unfortunately, she made my drink with what seemed like disdain, and when she handed it to me, it felt like she was disgusted.
I don’t know who hurt her but it was the most bizarre response I’ve ever received. Anyway, the coffee was good but I’m not sure I would want to go back to this place again. Kindness...
