El Gitano Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Burlington

I was hoping for a great experience as we read the reviews online & they were mostly good. However the experience we had was lacking in everything & very disappointing. We were meeting a friend there so we let our waitress know he'd be there in just a few minuets & she was okay with that & brought us water, chips, & salsa. The salsa was bland & the chips were stale. He got there shortly after she dropped the chips & we had to wait another 20 minuets for her to come back to take our order, mind you we were 1 of 4 tables there at 6pm and 2 waitresses were serving that night. The radio was playing in the background but it wasn't even audible except when the ads came on & the rest of the restaurant was silent and cold. We finally had to flag her down to come back for our orders. Then we waited 20 more minuets for our food to come out and the portions were tiny in comparison to their prices. The fish tacos were inedible and the beans and rice were dry. Our water was never refilled & she didn't come back to check in about anything. She was playing obnoxious videos on her phone at another table and completely ignoring our table until we had to flag her down again to bring us the bill. Everyone has off nights, I'm a server myself so I know it can be tricky some nights but when you only have 2 tables there's no excuse for such terrible service. We will not be returning or recommending this...

First time eating here i was 11 and there was a dirty toothpick in the salsa! I vouched and said i was never coming back. Thirteen years later decided to give em a shot, today bought the small combination of a beef taco and a pork tamale. Got my chips and salsa no tooth pick this time but food experiance chips where dry and stale tasting, figured my meal would be better!? Well no it was a tastless dry show! the tamale was all dough hardly any pork what so ever toke a bite of the meat inside the beef taco, tastes rotten N absolutely sour!! Unfortunately the only thing that was good was the drink and the server and its a shame she has too serve tastless sour food! Paid my for my drink was not paying for food it was all just a el gitano disaster food wise! Never going there again until the food is better! Ps was looking at the margarita glasses while waiting for my food and the glasses...

Came here 2 weeks ago and still thinking about how awful it was.

Honestly the worst Mexican food I've ever had. It was oily, soggy, and bland. Not even the American food was good, the mozzarella sticks were hollow and cheeseless. The chicken taquitos tasted like cat food, quesadilla tasted like refrigerator, carne asada was undercooked yet tough, nachos were stale, and the seafood enchilada was mushy. How can you even call yourself a Mexican restaurant without horchata or free chips & salsa?

The bathroom smelled rancid and was definitely not up to code. The tv/bar was too loud and made it hard to converse. And the waitress kept forgetting which drinks people had/confusing orders and would slam everything down on the table (except the things too hot to touch-no she'd hand you that directly)
