I've patronized 19 Handles several times after playing volleyball with a group of friends on Friday nights, and I'm surprised I haven't reviewed the pub until now. The wait staff has always been friendly and cooperative with our large groups even when arriving towards closing. We've called ahead and they keep the kitchen open long enough to serve us. The beer is great, the food even better. I'm amazed at the specials I've seen on the menu, and everything I've ordered has tasted homemade. I've never been disappointed, and my friends love the place as well. We've tried other local places on occasion, but always regret it, and come back here. It's our "GoTo" place if we're going to eat and drink after playing. My favorite has been the fish and chips. Some of the best I've had. I've also had the Scotch egg, Sausage platter, sweet potato fries, and the Hungarian Goulash to name a few. I recently had a bowl of homemade chili that's one of the best I've had. So good I wouldn't let the waiter take the bowl until I ran my finger around the bowl to get the rest of the sauce. Perfect heat to flavor ratio.
My only disappointment at 19 Handles is that they don't serve "flights" of beer. I've asked many times, but they seem to be reluctant to do so. PLEASE, add a flight of four 5 oz., or five 4 oz. beer flights to the menu! I was thinking about giving them a four star rating for this, but I like the place too much.
Tip: The pub is kind of a locals place and a little obscure. Don't be fooled by the run down strip mall, the gas station out in front, or the dive bar to the right. GO INSIDE! It will surprise you, and you'll stay and have a good beer and...
Read moreMy wife and I are retired and dine out 3 to 4 times weekly. We do not like to stray far from home and usually eat our meals in mid-afternoon. We were delighted when Kilt Pub opened its doors about two years ago less than a mile from home, but found the original menu offerings a bit limited and, frankly, not all that good. Then, last St. Pat's day we were looking for a good Corned Beef and Cabbage dinner and decided to give Kilts another try. To our pleasant surprise we found Kilts to be under new ownership and enjoyed the best Corned Beef we have ever had, even in Dublin. Now, seven months on, Kilts has become our main eatery. There are so many positive aspects about this establishment, it is difficult to know where to begin. Alice and Marko, the new owners, are Czech emigres and bring an old world charm that is refreshing and a sheer delight. There is the traditional Public House fare of Fish and Chips, Bangers and Mash, and Shepherds Pie. But Alice's weekly specials are usually a good bet: Meatloaf, Jambalaya, Stuffed Peppers, Paprika Chicken, Hungarian Goulash, and the list goes on. My personal favorites are the Lox and Sour Cream atop Potato Pancakes, and any soup she serves will be awesome. Try it, you'll be happy...
Read moreWe had been wanting to try this place for a whole after moving to the area and finally went last Friday night on a whim! Let me tell you it did not disappoint!!! The food was great and the service was prompt and friendly. The owner was there, he is a fairly new owner of the place. He was so nice and welcoming, we felt like we had know him for ever and that we were visiting a friends house for dinner! He described things on the menu when we're not sure what to decide. I ended up going with the French dip. The flavor was on point and the bread was so fresh and soft. We split the nachos as an appetizer and they were fresh and not smothered in cheese like most places. It was fresh ingredients and perfect portions. My bf had the pastrami sandwich and enjoyed it as well. We took a to-go grilled cheese for my mom and it smelt delightful, they even toasted parmesan cheese on the outside of the bread. Yum! Beers are mostly local brewers which is awesome to support local. I had the huckleberry cider which was nice and refreshing. We will definitely be back! So nice to have a friendly local spot with good hospitality these days! Looking forward to summer nights on the...
