Bean Me Up (No, it's not a Star Trek reference đ)
Donât let the name fool youâBean Me Up might sound like a quirky sci-fi reference, but thereâs nothing gimmicky about the food here. This unassuming local taqueria has become my go-to lunch spot for over two years. And for good reason.
Their carnitas and al pastor are absolutely phenomenalâtender, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned every single time. I usually go for a burrito or a handful of street tacos, and the portions are no joke. If you eat just one of their massive burritos around 2 PM, you're gonna be full straight through to breakfast the next day.
The salsa verde deserves its own shoutoutâbright, fresh, and just the right amount of kick, perfectly complementing the flavors of the meat without stealing the spotlight. And it tastes like it was made that morning, every time.
In over two years of regular visits (weekly, without fail except for when I travel), theyâve only messed up my order twice. That kind of consistency is hard to find anywhere (looking at you, Taco Bell ಠ_ಠ).
If I had one complaint, itâs the drive-thru wait times; especially during peak lunch hours. But even that can be easily mitigated: call ahead. Call ahead and theyâll have your order ready and waiting. And when lines have been particularly long, Iâve seen staff come out to take orders or deliver them straight to cars. Thatâs the kind of above-and-beyond service that turns a good spot into a great one.
If youâre a local and love legit tacos or burritos, Bean Me Up isnât just worth a visitâitâs worth making part of your weekly routine. And if youâre just passing through, itâs absolutely worth the short jaunt from the freeway. The food, the portions, and the service make it a standoutâone of those hidden gems that makes you wish your hometown had something just like it.
May they live long...
Read moreAlright, here's the deal. I have been all over this great nation when I was driving over the road and ate at a lot of taco trucks, and, had a lot of authentic Mexican food. Okay? So I know a good taco. This place is the real thing. THE best Mexican food in town, bar none, and I tried them all. Including the "authentic" Mexican fare at Tacos El Superior. It was good, no doubt, but costs too much. Bean Me Up is in a whole other league. And the girls that run it for their dad are just angels, always greeting me like I was family.
To be fair, we have gotten the occasional tiny bit of gristle or tough piece of asada, but I don't care. It happens with food this fresh. And sometimes the wait is long, so have patience or go when you can wait a while, it will be worth it. Now, you have got to try the asada Ultra Tacos. My mouth almost waters all the way there. My wife just loves the little asada street tacos and the sides are always fresh, too. A side thought, you can ask for light lettuce on the Ultras.
I found out about this place while working at a parts store. The owner, a big Mexican gentle giant of a man was at my register. I saw the name of the place on his tee shirt and that they sold Mexican food, and I said, "Look, I have been everywhere and had authentic Mexican food. Is it real?". And he said, "You will think you are right on Olvera Street in LA". Been going ever since.
So there it is, as far as I am concerned any bad reviews are from people who would not know authentic Mexican food if it fell on their head. Or, they are shill posts from a manager/owner of some pathetic establishment that specializes in weak, amercanized so-called Mexican food. Come to think about it, lunch will be from here tomorrow. Palomar...
Read moreThis was my first time trying this place and I was very impressed, I usually do not eat Mexican food out because my wife usually makes homemade Mexican food. I ordered the babacoa burrito, carnitas burrito, asada tacos and asada tacos. Everything was fresh and delicious. I also ordered a vanilla latte and have to say it was beyond my expectations. One thing i will say is the coffee cups and lids were on the cheap side and it kept spilling every time I took a drink . This was also the case with my wifeâs cappuccino. I will...
