I have never in my life encountered such a disgusting, unsanitary, and downright dangerous restaurant. I am genuinely shocked this place hasn’t been shut down by the health department yet! Someone needs to call the CDC because Birrieria Tlaquepaque is a health hazard waiting to happen.
The moment we walked in, the smell hit us. And I don’t mean the enticing aroma of delicious Mexican food – no, this was a rancid, musty odor that immediately made me question the cleanliness of the entire establishment. But since we’d driven so far, we decided to give it a chance. Huge mistake.
The tables were sticky, and I noticed bits of food, likely from previous diners, wedged into the crevices. Gross, but I wasn’t ready for what was to come. The silverware was still wet from “cleaning,” and I use that term loosely because there were visible food particles stuck to the forks and knives. I asked for a clean set, and the server seemed completely unfazed, as if this was normal. No apology, no concern. Just laziness.
When the food finally came out after what felt like an eternity, it was borderline inedible. I ordered the birria tacos, and what I got was a soggy, greasy mess. The meat tasted sour, like it had been sitting out far too long. My partner took one bite of his dish and immediately spat it out—it tasted like something had gone rancid. At that point, we were terrified of getting food poisoning.
But the absolute worst part? The kitchen. On my way to the restroom (which was disgusting, by the way – no soap, floors sticky, and toilets that looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in weeks), I caught a glimpse of the kitchen through the open door. I nearly vomited. There were flies EVERYWHERE, swarming over uncovered food. Raw meat was sitting out on counters, exposed to the air, and no one in the kitchen was wearing gloves. I saw someone drop a piece of food on the floor, PICK IT UP, and throw it back on the grill like it was no big deal. It was horrifying!
The health violations here are endless. I wouldn’t be surprised if this place has been shut down multiple times already, only to somehow sneak by inspections. I’m honestly worried about what I consumed and spent the entire night praying I wouldn’t end up in the hospital.
Do yourself a favor and stay FAR away from this dump. Better yet, someone needs to get the authorities involved and shut it down for good before someone gets seriously sick. This is not just bad food – this is a public health crisis...

Today, I stopped by birrieria Tlaquepaque. Tlaquepaque is located within the Guadalajara metropolitan area. So I was to a good start. The waitress was friendly and she helped me decide what the best selection was. I was there for the birria, so that's what I had. In one of the reviews I read, it said that their agua de horchata was great. To my surprise, it wasn't homemade, but bottled in a plastic bottle, which was disappointing. As a free entrée, they served refried beans with refried tortilla chips. The beans tasted delicious like my grandma used to make. Then the birria arrived. The consome tasted a bit light, but it was good. The carne maciza was delicious with the added cilindro, chop white onios, and salsa, all this paired with the just made corn tortillas. It was a simphony of flavors coming together in my mouth. A reminder of times gone by.
Please come and enjoy the birria in this restaurant. Keeping this Mexican tradition a life and we'll.

Read moreI personally like the Birria, I buy a few times a month. I never forget the Beans and chips. Molcajete salsa is good. I have been a customer for about 13 years now and I do have a complaint. As far as customer service. I asked to try the fountain drinks and was told no they cant let me taste them, I told them I am already purchasing 90+ dollars worth of take out, the least thing you guys can do is let me taste a spoon full of horchata ,jamaica and tamarind flavor beverage so I can choose one. I've always bought the glass bottle coke therefore never had a chance to try the fountain drinks. The older lady who charges always looks mad for no reason. the fact she repeatedly told me in different ways no I couldn't taste the drinks made me mad. She stated it's the owners who said to not let customers taste the drinks. I say bad customer service skills are implemented by...
