I decided to try out my town’s latest food trend to see what all the hype was about. BobbyMacsBbq did not disappoint.
Located in the former Wanda’s Bakery location, the atmosphere was elegant and clean. The entrance is located not at the front door but at the “Side door” , hence the pop up name of bobbymacsbbq out the side door. I honestly like the side door entrance better than the corner front door.
So let’s talk food. They have many selections to choose from that all sound very good. But I’m a sucker for a Philly cheesesteak and ive heard nothing but good things about the bobbymacs version! I needed to be the judge for myself. Let me tell you that the smoked brisket cheesesteak on amoroso roll was a nice take on one of my favorites!
I knew what I wanted before before I got there, having reviewed the menu through Facebook posts, and decided I would get waffle fries on the side and I enjoyed a large glass bottle of coca cola to wash it down! I did waste a few minutes trying to figure out how to order online. To which I abandoned, I called a few times and no answer. I asked a friend and she suggested just go there. So I did.
I was prepared for the hit to my pocketbook, and for the sandwich fries and drink my total came to a whopping 35$ — not something that I could enjoy weekly, maybe monthly. But I had a long day of hauling stuff to dumps, and I worked through lunch and it was perfect time to take a break and get some grub.
To my delight the sandwich was an explosion of flavor and smokiness, melted cheese and spicy plus sweet peppers gave it a nice level of heat and I devoured the first half in no time. It was so good and at the end I was determined to finish the whole sandwich.
It didn’t look like it but it was a lot of food and I barely got the last bite down! It took me awhile but I finished my food and was satisfied that I got my moneys worth!
I have to give the smoked brisket cheesesteak 4 out of 5 crockett rockets!!
I can’t wait to try some other meals.
I especially liked the welcoming and friendliness that was their vibe.
As I walked out a got a thanks for coming from the whole crew I think! Thanks for having me!...
Read moreIt was my birthday, and being from Kansas City, I decided I would like BBQ for dinner. A former coworker is the Chef at Pixar and posted that a former coworker there was doing BBQ up in Crocket. So off we went. 42 miles. But it was totally worth the trip. We arrived at the end of the dinner rush on Sunday after they served brunch that morning. The host told us that they were running out of BBQ but that they had other options. He said they had received a good review and were unable to keep up with the demand. I have owned a BBQ joint in Kansas City so I totally understand. You need to plan days ahead to increase production. I also learned that they are getting a bigger smoker and until they do they can only produce what they can. OF GREAT BBQ! ARRIVE EARLY!! I saw gumbo on the menu so I would be fine and Nancy loves a good Caesar salad so we ordered that along with a side of potato salad. I mentioned to the host that if there was a piece of the brisket left, I would love to taste it, since I was a BBQ fanatic. The Caesar salad was great. You could smell the anchovy, garlic and parmesan as it came to the table. A proper Caesar - not the usual flavored mayo. The server cleared our plates - properly by asking permission - and then marked the table settings for the next course. Very impressive service that greatly exceeded my expectations. The gumbo was very good with a rich dark roux enriched sauce with perfectly cook shrimp, andouille and chicken. Nancy declared that the potato salad was " just like my mother's" and the host brought out two slices of brisket. One point slice and one from the flat. The brisket had a good bark and smoke ring and perfectly passed the pull apart test. It had the right amount of smoke. Enough but not bitter from over smoking. I can't wait to GET THERE EARLY and...
Read moreAn easy five-star experience. The food is outstanding. Portion size is perfect. And price is shockingly amazing.
I had the one way, an order of ribs. I love that the ribs were not slathered with barbecue sauce, but barbecue sauce was provided on the side. They didn't need it, because they tasted great. I originally ordered it my two sides as collard greens and seasoned fries. By mistake they brought me out some coleslaw also. Best coleslaw I've had. I'm not normally a coleslaw fan, but I could have eaten two orders of this coleslaw. The collard greens we're unusual but amazing nonetheless. And the season fries could not have been better.
The food came out super fast, but it was also super fresh. It was obvious that nothing had been lying around.
And the service could not have been beat. Devin, my server, could not have been more attentive and professional.
The dining room is bright, spotless, and wide open. Most of the tables are family style tables, but they're large enough where you would not feel uncomfortable dining with the complete stranger. And it wouldn't matter if you were with a complete stranger, because if they're eating here, they're probably a pretty cool person anyway.
I can't wait to come back to Bobby Mac's.
Oh, and as for Downtown Crockett, I love it. I've always wanted a reason to spend more time in Crockett. It's a fantastic little city only a few miles from San Francisco...
