I’ll start off this review by stating I went to Dukes, two different times before deciding to write a review I also reached out to their management, no reply, no call, nothing... so here it is.
I stumbled upon this place purely by coincidence. I was excited to see a burger and brew place as I am a big fan of both. And living right down the street I was excited to have a new spot. The first time I went, I walked in and I stood there waiting to be seated or told to grab a seat anywhere, no one acknowledged me and I was not greeted, there were no signs and as staff whizzed by I was ignored when I tried to ask where to sit, so I grabbed an open table and waited by the bar for help. After another 5 minutes someone finally asked what I wanted, no smile, no “hi how are you” just a monotone rudely asked question of “what do you need” I asked about the beers and the person behind the bar said “I don’t know” not a good statement from a bartender 0 for 2 on first impression. Fortunately I could see the tap handles and knew what brands I like so I ordered a beer, paid, Drank it and left.
Second time a couple days later, I walked in with a fresh opinion and was hoping maybe to get different staff and outcome, this time I came in with my 4 year old as she wanted a hotdog and root beer float. This time I was greeted promptly but once again no smile and a monotone “What can I get for you” so I ordered a brisket burger, a beer (this beer tender actually knew what was on tap this time thankfully) some spicy fritters, a kids meal hot dog with fruit and a milk and asked if I could place a to go order and if we could sit outside... once seated my food actually came out decently fast, minus the to go order, unfortunately my kids hotdog was a GIANT spiral sliced hot dog that I had to cut up so she could actually eat it, the fruit was just grapes and the milk came out of a gallon jug. This was not a “kids meal” by any means... and the kicker... no root beer floats, they didn’t have ice cream or root beer... great... so my burger comes out and the burger patty itself was perfect, cooked perfectly and to the temperature I asked for and a great flavor, That’s the ONLY reason I gave 2 stars instead of one, at least the cooks do burgers right and they were busting their butts in the small kitchen they have, However... the sauce they put on it was absolutely disgusting and very little of it, it was this dark pasty stale almost applesauce consistency and it was bland... thankfully in this case, I took half of my burger home and used my friends BBQ sauce. Burger was good then. The spicy fritters had very little binding agent so they fell apart while trying to eat them. Good... but tasted a little freezer burnt. Wouldn’t order them again.
While sitting outside, getting any kind of help was almost impossible, when ordering my To Go burger, asking for a box or the check... I waited 20 minutes or more for each thing. I maintained my composure as my daughter was with me, but it seemed like the staff was only attentive to their “regulars” and getting up to asked for help was a little hard while having my kid with me.
I couldn’t understand why the staff, and I mean ALL the staff look absolutely miserable... I’d like to say I am exaggerating a little bit but i am not even remotely exaggerating... After trying to reach out to the owners even offering my personal phone number and contact info, to offer constructive Criticism as someone who was a recent customer and as someone who has opened two very successful bar/restaurants with an equally successful management and marketing background... I got no reply, just an automated email back stating I would hear back in 48 hours which has now been...

Read moreDuke's plate's and pints isn't necessarily a bad place. I've been coming to it for years since it changed from Beach Hut deli because it's very convenient for me. One of the few restaurants in the immediate area that'll serve a burger and fries, the only problem being it's not the biggest burger, and you get about 8 fries. It's a tough thing to do when the meal costs upwards of $15. Today was the last straw, though. They have a "specials" board outside and you think to yourself, "Wow, they have a good deal on fish n chips today?!" No. You would be wrong. The fish n chips came out and it was 2 of the smallest Nemo looking fishes I'd ever seen on top of probably a dozen fries. "Ok" I thought to myself, "this is a lunch special so it's probably a small portion for a good price." Boy how wrong I was. $14 is what it cost me. I've been to place like Santa Barbara where prices are inflated, and have gotten bigger, fresher fish for less money. This was a slap in the face for a "special". I get better prices for meals in Midtown for things not on special. Midtown! this place thinks it's all high and mighty like Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. Fries are cheap, man. Throw in a handful of them per order at least, 8 fries per meal is insulting. Overview: Price: 0/5 stars Quality of food: 3/5 stars Beer pricing: 3/5 Service: 3/5 Beer selection 3/5 P.S. I wish it was still...
