We had a really standout time here during our trip to California. After accommodating our larger group on the fly, each one of us were very impressed with our meals and experience. The place is small with an indoor section that also opens to a counter that can accommodate people on the “in”side and the “out”side, with an additional outdoor seating area running alongside the building where we sat.
We each tried different versions of their wood fired pizzas on the regular menu as well as an oxtail pizza on special, and one of us also got the meaty “WTF” burger. After coming out very quickly, each variety of pizza seemed rich, balanced in flavours, and well thought out whether it was more of a classic style or one of Rob, the owner’s creations like the spicy, lightly sweet, and slightly funky (in a good way) “Bill” pizza. The toppings were generous and spread close enough to the edge of the crust so you weren’t left feeling like you were just eating flatbread. The crust was the good kind of crispy and chewy, lightly charred on the outside, and soft on the inside.
Our foodie friend who had the “WTF” burger said it was one of the best he’s had, with large quantity of additional meats accompanying the medium rare burger.
Rob took time to answer any questions we had and seemed to be passionate about what he does. He also made recommendations for different wineries to check out during the remainder of our stay, and he wasn’t too proud to clean tables and do the duties that the rest of the staff also did. After such a good experience, we ended up coming back to grab food for our last night in town before...
Read moreMixed Bag 🎒 This place used to be a bbq restaurant. Complete with the large bbqs and smokers outside, it certainly was delicious. Fast forward, the owner turned it into a pizza restaurant with some other choices like a few bbq items and burgers. We tried the sausage pizza and Rancho Gordo beans, salad, and deserts. The pizza consistency was a little on the wet side. It had purple baby potatoes along with the fenel sausage and cheese. The Rancho Beans I'm afraid did not go so well for me. They were served hot, and they had a soggy consistency. The salad was perfect. It seemed that the pizza and the beans were low on salt. The deserts were also a mixed bag. The cookie was the same recipe as when the place was a bbq restaurant, it was delicious. The pie to me had a lot of cinnamon, that didn't bother me, but I was surprised to find the whipped cream was unsweetened.
So my take on the items were as follows
Sausage Pizza - Good, maybe delete the purple baby potato and replace with red pearl onion. Salad- Delicious no change Rancho Beans - maybe didn't work for me, soggy consistency Cookie- Perfect no change Pie- Maybe add sweet whipped cream. Service- Excellent ! Atmosphere- Next to Hwy 12. But...
Read moreDid not go here for pizza. We were looking for a BBQ place we saw on Diners, Drive ins, and Dives. Apparently that restaurant reverted to catering only and this place sells a couple of the items from the restaurant we saw on TV. They did not offer the fried chicken I went for, but they did offer two other items they featured on DD&D. We ordered those two items and they were only okay. Saw several people picking up pizzas, no one eating in. I cannot comment on the pizzas, but based on the two items we did have, we won't be going back. NOTE: We did check for the restaurant online and it did show up with the address we went to, but the restaurant's name was not on the building, just the pizza place. From now on we will check further, but this is the first time we have had this happen when we went in search of a restaurant we saw on DD&D, and we have done...
