This was my second trip to Joey's. Today I ordered a sliced brisket sandwich with 2 sides - beans and coleslaw. I got it to go, and since sodas were about $3.50, I opted for AM/PM on Central. My price today was about $19 with a 3 dollar tip. The presentation was impeccable: sandwich wrapped neatly in paper while the beans and slaw had their own high-end containers (can I say that about to-go containers?...good lids and strong, individual cups). The sauce had its own cup and lid too. It actually made the presentation a little sterile, but a BBQ fan knows what's inside and maybe appreciates the clean packing for lunch in the work clothes. Sandwich: The bread...was a lot. Let's say it drowned out the few pieces of perfectly-made sliced brisket. The only plus to this bulky bread was that it was grilled, adding a bit of flavor to your bites. I drizzled the sauce each bite, giving me just enough sauce for the sandwich. If I'd had fries too, there wouldn't have been enough sauce. Sauce: I don't know. 4 stars out of 5. I liked it plenty, but I don't think I'd spend $5 on a bottle. Now that I think about it, I think I would have liked some fries with it. Beans: Kind of a mix between sweet and savory, but definitely more on the sweet side. They were solid, but I might opt for fries next time... Coleslaw: Good flavor. A little dry, which I can critique if I want, but in the end, it's probably healthier this way. No complaints really. Overall: Good quality food. I didn't get dirty nor did I use a napkin. Beans and slaw are healthier than fries, so they were a good choice. Value... I don't know if this is worth $20 (including my low-cost drink from AM/PM). I'd choose here over Lucille's, but maybe not over Dickey's (don't hate me for that admission). With all of that being said, they have an awesome outdoor eating area in back for your group, and that changes the game. Never choose Chili's or Olive Garden over Joey's place for your family meal. But for a one-man, take-out lunch, the cost is too high. I do recommend you try for yourself. They have a decent sized menu and a good drink menu.

Joey's BBQ in Chino has a very Texas-BBQ feel to it with the outdoor seating in the patio, and the indoor decor inside the restaurant. We went a little later in the evening on a Saturday, and might have gotten the slim pickings for what was left at the end of a long day of BBQ, so I might try to go a little earlier in the day next time. I ordered "The Works" ($55.25), which came with ham, beef, chicken, beef rib, pork ribs, and country sausage link. It was basically a sampler platter - and I figured this was the best way to try all of their meats. The best items on that platter were the chicken and surprisingly, the ham. We thought both the beef rib and the pork ribs were dry, and same thing with the sausage link. The 2 side dishes we got with "The Works" were the mac & cheese, BBQ beans, and a 4 piece side of cornbread for an extra $6.90. We enjoyed the cornbread the best out of these 3 side dishes, and will likely try to order other 2 new side dishes next time we visit. We weren't big fans of either the mac & cheese nor the beans. The real star of the show for us though was the Peach Cobbler dessert that we ordered at the end ($9.75). I would come back just for that cobbler with the ice cream on top. I really enjoyed the ambience, service, and the music. I just wish that food wasn't as tough. Like I said, we will probably go try to visit earlier in the day next time and hope for a better experience.

If Texas and the south are the centers of the BBQ universe, then Joey's is definitely a shining star. Located in Chino, on the corner of Riverside Drive and East End Ave, It's hard for me to believe that I haven't been here in 15 plus years, and I'm glad they are still around and bigger now (the neon sign outside is new to me as well as the outside dining area). With most of my family in Arizona now, I've been exploring and raving about all the BBQ places found in Arizona. Every good one I've been to had actual working smokers outside, and when they were out, they were out. Come back tomorrow. I recently visited Joey's because I wanted authentic BBQ and this places brings back memories. I recently had the combo here, which included the beef rib, the brisket, coleslaw, and mashed potatoes with gravy. Everything was mouthwatering, tender, and juicy, but the sauce man, that was total nostalgia. I dont know what's in the sauce, but the sauce here is unique and amazing. It is the panacea for a bad day. It makes the sun shine, the world turn, and it turns whatever it touches into gold. The moment I tasted their bbq sauce it took me back to the days when I came here with my family. And yes, I'm exaggerating a tad bit. But really, if you've never been to Joey's, check it out.

Joey's BBQ is quite easily a four out of five stars. We went to this restaurant after participating in the Chino Spartan races. Personally I went with the Tres Hombres which I bet shows the barbecue chicken, the beef ribs, and brisket. I'm going to start out with the worst to the best.

The beef ribs I have to say are pretty average. The consistency and thickness of the meat was great, the meat came straight off the bone, however the taste of the beef itself was just okay.

The barbecue chicken tasted fantastic. Was very well seasoned and the barbecue sauce itself was not overdone. The chicken easily came apart and all-around was a pleasure to eat. My only gripe is the piece that I got was a little dry, not dry enough to take away from the flavor, but it was noticeable.

The brisket at this place is 100% where they Shine. The brisket melts in your mouth, the seasoning was fantastic, and overall it was just the best meat that we ordered. I would come back to Joey's BBQ just for the brisket alone. I would gladly eat just 2 lb of their brisket and I'd be satisfied.

When it came to my sides I went with the baked potato with no sour cream and their broccoli. Was a little disappointed at the baked potato required an upgrade fee however I am glad that I did pay for the fee as it was a very good baked potato. I'm not sure how the broccoli was cooked, but it was nice crunchy and wasn't over-seasoned.

For dessert I went with their apple caramel bread pudding. It's up there with my favorite bread puddings. The bread itself wasn't overly soggy, and still had that great pudding consistency to it. The in-house whipped cream was great, it didn't have too much sugar and was a perfect complement to the bread pudding itself. The caramel wasn't incredibly thick and sticky, which of course is personal preference as I do like my caramel more on the runny side.

The service was also incredibly fast, we ordered our food and it was at the table like 15 minutes later. The staff had angry resting faces but they were incredibly polite and we're very quick to attend to any requests or needs that our table had.

The price of the place was on par with some other chain restaurants, but I'd say the price point matches the quality of the food that you're getting.

The restaurants Aesthetics were very good as well, really I had that homey feeling to it. Was also very clean and had pretty great Acoustics considering the open space. I didn't need to use the restroom so I'm unsure of the state of their restrooms.

Overall score would be a 4 out of 5, again I would definitely come back here. I'm curious to try some of their other dishes such as their sandwiches and...

We first discovered Joey's BBQ 3 years ago, and it was one of the best little bbq spots I had been to that was not a chain restaurant. The wait time was long, they had a fun atmosphere, an older gentleman singing with his guitar in the patio, drinks flowing, etc. Fast forward to tonight, we hadn't been to Joey's BBQ in over 6 months, we decided to treat ourselves. We arrive and the first thing we noticed, it's empty. The back patio is closed for renovations and the wait time was 10 minutes. We were seated, the waitress took our drink order, our appetizer order and our food order all at once. Our beverages were brought out shortly after, and then we never saw our waitress again, we waited eagerly for the oh-so delicious food we were craving and fondly remembered, for over an hour we waited, our waitress didn't even give us the usual "sorry for the wait" excuses you get at most restaurants. 57 minutes later our food arrives, it is bland and flavorless. We ordered (2) Meatloaf Dinners, with mashed potatoes and cornbread and (1) Hot dog with chili, same sides as the meatloaf dinner. The meatloaf was dry, flavorless and cold, the mashed potatoes did not have the old homemade flavor they used to have and the gravy that once used to taste like real beef drippings, tasted like it came out of a can. The cornbread tasted like it was reheated and the honey butter was mediocre. The appetizer of Buffalo Wings, came AFTER our food and they tasted frozen and the ranch was generic bottled dressing. The server did not ask if we wanted refills on our drinks and the waitress never checked on us again, as the food server and waitress were two different people. To say that we were disappointed was an understatement, when we got the check, which is probably the ONLY thing they were quick to serve us, we asked if they had undergone new management, to which we were told no, in an offended tone. We paid over $60 for 3 people and we left no monetary tip, however, I will leave a tip here: Don't allow cost cutting to ruin what you once had, your restaurant was one our families favorite and we used to look forward to having meals with our family at your table, instead you have left us with a bad taste in our mouth and we will no longer dine at Joey's BBQ, if you think that people will not notice how the quality of your food has deteriorated you are sadly mistaken and we are deeply saddened at how low you've allowed yourselves to get. Save your hard earned money people and head over to Lucille's or Famous Dave's at least their food...
