It's hard to find good quality coffee judging solely off google ratings. I tend to read reviews from other fellow coffee snobs since people's standards generally seem pretty low.

My boyfriend and I just moved to the Sacramento area from Chicago and have been scouting for the perfect cafe only to be left disappointed as every highly rated location's coffee was either too acidic, overly roasted beans, or burnt from hot temperatures while idling. (I understand this dilemma as I'm sure some customers expect their coffee to be hot after their weekly commute to work, but it completely destroys the quality of potentially good coffee).

One google user recommended Pause coffee rather than the coffee she disapproved of in her review. She was right. Pause coffee is perfection. We tried a sample of their drip coffee. I let my sample cool as a true test to its acidity and I was pleasantly surprised at how smooth it was. It had the perfect balance of smoothness and body. I ordered the lavender latte and it was creamy but not heavy and the lavender complimented the coffee. Too often businesses will add too much sugar and syrups to compensate for their low quality coffee. Pause coffee house seems to get it.

The staff was chill, informative, and accommodating. I was bummed leaving my favorite coffee shop in Chicago, cough-darkmatter-cough, but I found my new favorite here...

The best matcha tea lattes in the world! I mean maybe someone else does it right but mostly I’m disappointed anywhere else besides when I get one here. They use quality ingredients, thoughtfully and properly mixed. Never ever have powder left at the bottom! I love their house made syrups, tea selections and their coffee/espresso drinks are really fantastic too ( I come for the matcha consistently, but only because I now limit my caffeine intake). It’s all really delicious! Their pastry selection comes from a place in Sac that’s well known, I forgot where… it’s hard to just get one. The cinnamon rolls are my favorite- made with a croissant dough and are light and flavorful, with a light, thin layer of sugar based frosting. I am also a very big fan of their breakfast bagel sandwich and buy it often. The ambiance is clean, modern, comfortable and airy. Baristas are friendly and many have stayed for years.
