I was excited to eat here, as it came highly recommended. Sadly, I was a little underwhelmed with the inconsistent quality of the food. While there were some good things to eat here, there were some pretty disappointing items that were a deal-breaker for me. I ordered the Quesa Birria tacos dinner. The tacos were tasty, while and the consomme was just "ok". The Carne Asada taco was also delicious. The meat was tender and flavorful. The Tortillas were not homemade but this was not a big deal. If I were to go back, it would be for this. However, my Brother ordered a steak Burrito and it was not very good at all. Firstly, although I know that some restaurants add beans and sometimes rice to burritos, this Burrito was almost entirely beans and rice. The steak was very negligible. We had to search very hard to find the smallest amount of steak in the "Steak Burrito". Because the beans and rice did not taste very good, the burrito was not very good at all. The rice was completely broken, and dry with very little flavor. The beans tasted like they were poured straight from the can and warmed up. Super disappointing! I split my Birria tacos with my Brother so he could have something to eat. My biggest disappointment came when I tried the guacamole and chips. The chips were prepared fresh in-house and were tasty. The guacamole was not guacamole. It tasted like Pico de Gallo with blended, watered-down avocado mixed into it. So much onion, tomato and lime juice. Hardly any avocado. Lastly, the salsas were bland and flavorless and the Tres Leches cake was just "so-so. Overall, there are other Mexican restaurants in the area that I hope to try before I go here again. I really wanted to like this place but...
Read moreQuaint, friendly, patient and helpful. Spent several minutes discussing the options available. I sample a lot of Mexican food places across the spectrum and this one actually hit the mark on 9 out of 10 factors I look at when sampling the offerings. A) The chips and salsa fresca. Not a full pico, a little thinner than a salsa, the flavor was good but a little more heat wouldnt be unwelcome. Salt on the fresh chips wouldnt hurt but thats a personal preference. B) The shredded beef deep fried -birra item i have never encountered before was AWESOME (wish id gotten the plate) C) The spanish rice was fluffy and perfectly cooked, I personally like it with a smattering of diced vegetables but thats a San Diego thing. Deinitely a 8.5/10 though. D) The steak burrito...even without rice or beans inside was absolutely huge. The meat was very flavorful, though a little dry, still wont hesitate to have it again. E) The accompanying sauces, as noted by other reviewers. The mild green tomatilla was awesome, the dipping sauce with the birra thing...
