On Sunday, April 7, 2024, at about 7:30PM, I came to Geno's to place an order for carryout. Of course, sadly, there is never a way to place it by phone or online (had that dead end experience two years ago where the online link was not for Genos but some other place).
Nevertheless, as I approached the front door outside; without even speaking, a "female" security guard rudely says, "I gotta pat you down." I lift my arms for "her" to do so and she says, "you gotta turn around and open your legs." As uncomfortable as I now am; I oblige understanding that this is "protocol."
I make my way through the overcrowded bar area towards the kitchen area as I waited to speak to a server. Suddenly, from behind, I hear the same loud, rude voice shouting at myself and another patron saying that we couldn't wait where we were (near the restroom) because it was a "fire hazard."
I calmly turned around, although shocked, and asked her to please stop shouting! She said, "I've been saying this same thing for the last four hours and y'all ain't listening." I said, "ma'am, who is y'all because clearly I just arrived." She continued to yell as if she was interacting with children. I continued to redirect her poor behavior and asked her again to lower her voice.
I am not sure if the security is actually Genos staff or employed through a private agency. Either way, her behavior was NOT okay and is a poor reflection on the establishment. You cannot treat people any kind of way and think that your energy will not be ultimately matched. Her behavior from the outside to the inside was disrespectful.
There was a male bouncer at the door (I believe his name was Leo) who was very nice, saw my face and asked me what happened. I told him. I got the impression that I was not the first person to make mention of "her."
Hopefully, Genos will do better in screening those who are hired to be on the door. It can set the tone for the night if you're met with foolishness at the door! This is not the first encounter I had with rude security...
Read moreI've been going to the Geno's since in my thirties. We went so much we renamed it THE OFFICE. I stopped going for many years and have returned a couple of times for "day drinking". I recently met up with some of my friends on a Monday. I was not expecting to run into a blues band. When I say. I had a slapping ole school good time. Omg! Yes, Geno's has changed a lot. The bartenders have changed as well. My recommendation to those that have such negative energy about food. Why would you think you will get real "soul food" at a bar? Are you kidding me? If you don't smoke why would you go outside where smoking is conducted and then complain about you smelling like smoke? I recommend for all the ole heads come early if you don't want to pay a cover. Believe it or not. !@#$ Cost. I'm confused. leave early. Leave the night partying for those young folks. If you are disappointed in the service. Go somewhere else. Why spend your money where you are not happy? Humans need to exude patience. But, then again. There is always going to be somebody whining about something that they can't control. When it's your turn order two at a time. I have nothing but good things to say about Geno's "The Office" Never had any issues with the place at all. One of the few old-school places that are still standing with an old-school vibe. I'm here for it all. "Can't...
Read moreI was craving soul food so my friend and I decided to stop by to eat and have some drink but mainly to eat. The parking lot was tight and small however the inside is very spacious. We sat at the bar which is huge (a plus). The bartender Jade, who was AMAZING, served us right away. They have a separate sever who comes to take your food order in which Jade had to go inform her that we wanted to order food. We placed our order no issues. The drinks were great, the food came in a nice amount of time and it was hot and fresh. I ordered catfish fillet/wings combo dinner. The chicken and fish was seasoned and fried to perfection. It came with two sides of my choice (candied yams and red beans and rice) Both sides lacked seasoning, I was very hungry so I ate the red beans and rice but I sent the canned yams back for greens they were too hard and flavorless. The server took them back with no issue and replaced them. The greens came out fast they were hot but also lacked flavor/seasoning and very mushy like canned greens. But because they were accommodating, I simply asked for salt and hot sauce to help with what the greens lacked. Overall I had a great experience. Service was great, place was clean, food with the expcetion of the side was pretty good. I will be back hopefully they perfect the sides. Otherwise I'll just get fish wings and fries....
