I love food and I absolutely love supporting black business! However, Iām very disappointed in this place. I had a waffle & salmon croquette ordered online and was just going to do a pickup and then take food home but the restaurant looked so inviting that I decided to eat in and also asked if they had shrimp and grits, the cashier stated yes explained what was all on it and I said take the bacon off as I donāt eat pork. I started with the waffle and at first bite wanted to tell them that it must have been made with water because it was just so bland, even the syrup tasted very bland. But I didnāt want to give up and give a black owned business a bad rep, so I just ate it but couldnāt finish the last section cause it was just awful. I said, well these shrimp and grits look delicious š so, I know these will be good! I was wrong, watered down grits, no seasoning at all tasted one shrimp, no seasoning, shrimps are cut up, I didnāt have not one whole shrimp. I was so disappointed. I was waiting for a waitress to come check on me so I can advice no one ever came brought plate to register and told them what was wrong and was told what would I like to do, I asked for a refund and was told oh no sheās not going to give a refund. I guess the owner or mgr then came out and she explained their seasoning comes from the bacon and since I asked for no bacon thatās why itās so bland and can bring me some seasonings. She brought some type of garlic sauce and even that was watered down. I tried it though, tried to add some salt but ended up leaving the whole thing. She did explain that each dish is just the base and they do not add seasoning as some people canāt do salt. I appreciate that but I do feel each order the question should be asked if they want seasoning or none. That way it appeases everyone. Iāve never been to a bland black owned restaurant and I do believe I went here for my bday one year and forgot that the food was bland. So, yeah until that changes, I donāt see me paying well over &30 for some bland food. The atmosphere though is incredible. However, customer service really needs to be worked on. Especially when someone has paid that much. Thank you, though!
Added after seeing their comment: One thing, I absolutely despise is when someone lies on me! If you read my review, I stated the waffle was eaten all but the last section and no maām the shrimp and grits was not, I took one bite and was like nope, canāt do this anymore! After, you gave me the watered down garlic sauce, I took another bite and was just disgusted! I donāt like to bash restaurants, especially black owned but this is the problem with some black owned restaurants, you do not take accountability and act in thee upmost unprofessional manner! I never discussed how long youāve been open or your integrity as an owner of a restaurant or whether any other customers were pleased with your meals. I stated what I did not like! I also, didnāt want to go into detail as to why I said customer service needed work but since you took it there, Iāll go in detail:
When you offered me another waffle made in your pancake batter, I tried to explain that I didnāt want anything else because your food has absolutely no taste and everything that I tried is watered down. You stated to not interrupt you or we may have to fight! Now, you said it in a jokingly manner and quite frankly whether it is jokingly or not, IT IS ABSOLUTELY āUNPROFESSIONALā Iām not trying to tear you down, I am trying to build you up! Take the constructive criticism I provided and ask customers if they care for seasoning or not because I applaud you in trying to make food healthier for us especially because blacks have more high blood pressure, diabetes than most but please believe their are alternatives ex. Mrs.Dash and please refrain from ever telling someone to not interrupt or there may be a fight! I Love You Black Queen but please understand my review! God Bless and I truly hope you have an another...

Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have been to J's on multiple occasions and had good food and service. My cousins came in town and they were hungry so I decided to take them to J's. We arrived and was seated. We placed orders and my cousin and I ordered catfish and grits. When the food came out she was given shrimp & grits instead. She told the young man who brought our food she ordered catfish. The waitress messed up the order. He took the shrimp and grits back then returned and stated we could keep it and that they were making more grits. He then brought a separate piece of catfish on a plate alone. My cousin was still waiting for a while so we asked the waitress were they going to bring her food as she ordered it. She then pointed to the shrimp and grits and asked her "You don't eat shrimp? š That's why they gave you that." We explained that she did not order shrimp and would like her dish all together with her catfish and grits they way it was ordered. She finally brought the catfish and grits out much later. The waitress took the shrimp and grits and as my cousin attempted to move her half eaten catfish to her main plate the waitress looked at her said "you don't get to keep that" and made her give it to her. There was no apologies for my cousin waiting for a replacement due to the waitress messing up the order and we were appalled at the fact she implied she should just eat the shrimp & grits and returned to retrieve the cold half eaten piece of catfish. I love the food here however the customer service we experienced during our visit was unacceptable. I felt bad as I was the one that raved about the food at the restaurant and my cousin was very disappointed with...
