Placed a phone order while driving back from Santa Barbara, was surprised that I wasn't calling the restaurant directly, but a call center rep.
I ordered a medium pepperoni, black olives, green peppers and yellow onions, well done.
Placing the order was quick and the pizza was made correctly. It was ready when I arrived, but I had to wait about 10 minutes to pick up, because there was only one person at the counter and there was a line of people waiting to place an order.
Unfortunately, my pizza was warm (not hot) when I got home. It was still good, but not great like others have mentioned. I'll need to dine in next time and see if that changes my opinion of the pizza.
Like another person shared, the set up to pick up phone/online orders did lead to some awkward stares 👀 from people in line, thinking I was trying to jump the line. Maybe put a bigger sign that says "skip the line - phone/online" directly above the take out register, facing the people in line. 🤷🏻♂️
I'll definitely try them again...
Read moreThere is a reason this place gets 5 stars from so many people--because they have truly great pizza! This is now my favorite pizza place. I'm just sad it is so far from Long Beach. On the other hand, if there was one nearer to Long Beach, I'd probably be trending +lbs and -$ :) The pizza crust is on the thin side and has the ideal balance of crispness and chewiness to it. Not over doughy. It also has a generous amount of cheese and is not overly saucy.
Another thing they offer at Toppers that I haven't had elsewhere is a killer topping: small spicy pepperoni cups. It has a slight heat to it that, in addition to its smaller size, really makes it stand out from regular pepperoni. It is so flavorful!
Finally, I also really enjoyed their pizza cookie with ice cream. It is smaller than the Pizzookie BJ's Pizzeria has and about the size of Black Angus' Cowboy Cookie, but it is the tastiest of them all! It could be the Heath Bar chocolate and the bit of oatmeal they have in the batter, plus butter, that...
Read moreLow rating for a few reasons: difficulty making payment and poor customer service. I live locally but am out of state for the holidays and attempted to order multiple pizzas for a friend as part of a meal train in time of loss. Toppers’ online system would not let me complete the order unless I checked “pay at pickup” which I certainly was not going to allow the people I am buying this for to pay for. I called Toppers and no one could figure out how nor was willing to take payment any other way- over the phone, online with credit card, via Venmo, PayPal, Zelle, bank transfer. This seems ridiculous especially in 2024. And all things considered since this was a meal for a grieving family in need I have little respect for Toppers’ lack of assistance to make this happen. I took my business to Institution Ale House whose pizza I prefer anyway but their staff and management are far more efficient, friendly...
