New underrated gem for Argentinian empanadas.
Possibly the best empanadas I’ve had in the GBA. Stumbled upon this place a couple months ago while grabbing coffee next door, and since then, it’s become a go-to whenever I’m in the area. The storefront itself is nothing fancy. Definitely not trying to be some artisanal bakery, but the food speaks for itself.
I’ve always liked the idea of empanadas, but most I’ve had in the past in the city were either too dry or had greasy, over-salted fillings. Here, they get the balance right. Flaky, buttery crusts and fillings that are flavorful without being overwhelming. They offer dipping sauces, but I honestly think a simple drizzle of their hot sauce is all you need. Turns each bite into the perfect comfort food.
So far my favorites were the Spicy Chorizo, Criolla Beef, and the Eggplant. Of the three, spicy chorizo was the most flavorful, but eggplant was surprisingly the best. Topped with melted cheese, rich without being heavy, and had that juicy-soft center that worked beautifully with the buttery crust. Add hot sauce and it’s game over.
Can’t speak to how authentically Argentinian these are, but I can say they’re really, really good. Definitely worth checking out if you’re...
