It took me eight years to finally make it to Agganis Arena and boy am I glad that I didn't rush there. I was there with one of my best friends for some BU Terriers hockey action as they hosted the Harvard Crimson and were very much looking forward to the game.
We arrived to a very nice, modern and clean arena that sits about 6,300 fans during games. It only has one tier and is very well designed with plenty of entry and exit points. No one is too far from the action and frankly there's few bad seats in the place. And despite the layout and atmosphere, we were quickly frustrated as the game started.
First off the acoustics. I know that a lot of bands perform there and I'm not sure how that's possible. There's absolutely no dampening of the sound waves in there and it just bounces all over the place - this ends up causing distortion which makes things way more difficult to hear. We could barely make out a lot of the things being said by the PA announcer during the game.
Another negative thing, which in many ways ruined the night for us was that they only are willing to replay the goals from the home team and not the away team. I understand that this is the Terriers's home arena by Harvard had some of the most amazing goals last night (including one that made ESPN's top 10 today!) and not being able to see the goals again, in slow mo, on the big screen flat out sucked. I don't find it fair to the fans - we are here for the action and the goals - whether they are BUs or not is to be decided but I felt cheated by this. Do they expect that maybe the away team goals will go unnoticed? Karma had it's way as Harvard won in OT on a score of 6-5.
All in all, the place has a lot of positive and a lot of negatives. I wanted to like the place, I really did. But then I walked around and despite it being clean and intimate, I just couldn't find myself loving the place. The fan experience is pretty bad although they seem to have made efforts on the concessions, which even serve specials (something that isn't the case at the TD Garden). However they also charge $90 for a low quality hockey jersey at the BU fan concession stand which is outrageous. And worst of all, the tickets frankly aren't affordable. I paid the exact same amount for it on Ticketmaster as I would for a Bruins home game via my season tickets. So... thanks but no thanks. At least not...
Read moreThe line was REALLY long but once they opened the doors the line went by really fast. Agganis is spacious, nice, fancy and clean! The lights and sounds are👌🏽 BUT the food, snacks and drinks are ridiculously expensive for no reason. There’s no need for that since they make really good money with the concert tickets. The chairs are REALLY hard and uncomfortable and they were not very organized with the lines. No one was there to help people find their seats because they were all on the bottom making sure no one passed to the floor. People were sitting on other people’s chairs because almost everyone was confused. Letters of the rows are on each stair, number of section is on the top wall of each section and then the number of seat is on each seat. But that Keshi concert made my daughter and I not concentrate on all the mess. Keshi knows how to give a great show and because of him, it made it all better. Some people were standing during the whole concert blocking other’s view, which shouldn’t be allowed because everyone was able to see from their seat and everyone paid to see the artist NOT anyone else’s behind🙄 But honestly Agganis, do better and be more organized. Put signs up so people know where to go if no one will be there to redirect a big crowd or simply...
Read moreCame here to see The 1975. No complaints, really. Photos are from sec 103. row Q. seat 14. If you're wondering, Q is the last row so nobody will be behind you to get annoyed with your jumping around. You're at a bit of an angle but it's not an issue...a little further to the right and it may have been troublesome.
Seats are pretty close together but luckily the 2 seats to my left were open so I had room to dance-you can't sit down at a 1975 show. In between rows is a bit snug but I did alright for having long legs. The sections weren't labeled very well, I had to ask for help and still had difficulty even after that.
Sound and staff were fine. I was looking forward to getting frisked but sadly it didn't happen. I never carry much to concerts-just my wallet, phone and keys in my jacket pocket. They asked people to take hold metal objects over their head and walk through the detector. Also - I could hear the music loud and clear so no problem there.
I didn't get any food but I saw the pizza-it looked like shit but I'm from NY so I'm a bit snobby about my slices. People also had small buckets of popcorn.
It's too far for me to go unless it's a -MUST SEE BAND OR I WILL DIE!- kinda thing but it was a very...
