I've been eyeing this location for a while and was delighted to see a soft opening sign today! They started their soft opening two days ago, and expect to do their grand opening in the next couple of weeks. The staff are really friendly and the shop is very clean and elegant. Ordering is done through a touchscreen kiosk or through your phone (via Chowbus). Currently they are offering a variety of drinks as well as souffle pancakes. I was really excited to see the souffle pancakes as I haven't had them in years. We ordered the fruit tea and the brown sugar boba souffle pancake for indoors dining (there were two small tables and 3 chairs).
We got the fruit tea ($6.75) at 70% sugar and probably should have gotten it at 50%. It has both fruit and tea flavor but not many edible fruits (just a slice of orange, lemon, and lime). The first drink we got had a lot of concentrate settled at the bottom but they made us another one which I think they mixed better. It was very nice of them as we didn't even mention anything about the first drink. I'm looking forward to trying more of their drinks. As it stands, I probably would rather have Yifang or Little Bake for the flavor of the fruit tea and the fruit toppings, but there are tons of other drinks that I have yet to try, including many blended beverages and milk tea drinks.
The brown sugar boba souffle pancake ($10.75) took a while which was expected (the last souffle pancake place I went to told customers to expect a 20 minute wait, and this one took about 30 minutes). It came with 3 fluffy pancakes and a creamy sauce and brown sugar boba in a cute globe shaped container. I would highly recommend eating it fresh since it tastes better warm. I really wanted to love this, but unfortunately the inside of the pancake was quite heterogeneous, with large patches of just egg white. I imagine this is from incomplete incorporation of the egg whites into the rest of the batter, probably because they were trying to avoid deflating the egg whites. So, I think the execution could have definitely been better on the pancakes, but I'm sure that will improve with time. The sauce and the boba were great.
Overall I'm really happy to see a new boba place in the Porter area, and I can definitely see myself becoming becoming a semi-frequent customer once I figure out my go-to order. Really friendly staff...
Read moreI chose this only OneZo that still opened at 10:30PM for a reason. They opened late until 2AM, and I've been to other OneZo in Boston which had good service and tea. We order brown sugar latte, strawberry green tea, and charcoal latte to try out.
The green tea and charcoal latte were supposed to be cold but we order the brown sugar latte WARM and only little bit sweeter. The batista gave us a cold one with ice so we gave it back. He took it and tore out the top sealed then scooped all the ice out. Worst than that, he poured more brown sugar syrup and milk straight in the cup which was already sweet. And of course, microwave latte that contained milk and syrup was not a great idea. Although we saw how it was done, we didn't want to ruin the night by being complicated. However, we completely wanted to throw away the cup after 1 sip because it was SUPER SWEET that anyone can swallow.
Moreover, I would like to recommend to cook the boba a little longer and mix with brown sugar because they're were hard to chew, weren't cook through, and taste really bland compare to other Boba shops.
I dont know if they didn't followed the recipe or just rushing to make the drinks. I understand that it was a late night but nonetheless, a good business should not be about rushing and microwave latte to make it hot. I used to work at a bubble tea Cafe and understood clearly...
Read moreWent here for the first time since I was around the area.. usually I’d go to the one in Allston. I ordered just tea with no toppings (or cheese foam) and did not realize that this location would be +$2 (total of $7) more than the Allston one. The tea here also tasted watered down. Was also annoyed at the fact that when I went at around 8pm, one of the workers kept telling me to move so she could clean the floors.. they don’t close until 11:30pm.. could have cleaned AFTER I left.. not to mention that the store was close to empty and that it was not even close to their closing time. It’s not my fault I had to wait 20 minutes for one order of just plain tea when I was the only other customer besides another one before me. Would recommend anyone who wants One Zo to go to the one in Allston for better drinks, price, and service. I go to the one in Allston often for tea and they take less than 5 mins (even if it is busy)...
