Abelardo’s Mexican Fresh — Restaurant in Cape Girardeau

We went to try this place out after a neighbor mentioned it. I had some trouble with the order: A single enchilada was $3, and a combo was $7, but it didn't say how many came in a combo. I assumed it was 3 for $7 since 1 was $3. I asked just to make sure, and the cashier didn't know, and she asked the cook who confirmed the combo was 2 enchiladas. Interesting... so I ordered 2 single enchiladas to save a dollar. I also ordered a meal, and so did my girlfriend, totaling $28 and some change, plus tip. After we ordered, the cashier and cook start talking about the enchilada mix-up, saying how can 2 singles be $6 but a combo of 2 be $7. It would have been nice (and actually useful) to have this discussion before we paid. I explained that's what I was saying, and both just shrugged their shoulders, said "I don't know", laughed, and walked off. They weren't angry; they just didn't give a care. We got our food and it was not good. It was slop. I wouldn't (and didn't) even feed it to my dogs. The taco I had was all ground beef, with no cheese, no lettuce, and no other toppings. The shell was soggy and soaked in grease and/or water. They put lettuce which had wilted to slime on top of the hot enchiladas. It was super salty, low quality, messy, and it wasn't cheap. I am not one to leave reviews on place either it be good or bad but this one was needed to be done . This was my first time and probably my last time visiting. When we arrived to the drive thru , there were 2 cars ahead which I thought would give us time to review the menu to place an order … however that was not the case . We were rushed to place an order and the voice seemed frustrated when we asked what items were . We placed an order to end the clerk’s frustration only to be told our order was $29. ++ for 3 tacos , super fires and chips/salsa 😬, we moved through the line quickly only to be face to face with the voice behind the screen who was less friendly than through the intercom . I had about the order once I asked for the receipt and all he could tell me was “ I think it’s a $1 more for the combo “ & “ I don’t know “ and “ yeah those tacos are a lot higher , I don’t know why !” We were given our food and came home to dig in , unfortunately the food did not make up for the horrible or lack of customer service . I see that there’s a couple bad experiences at this place, but my experience was awesome. I made a DoorDash order with this place and took an extremely long time trying to find a driver and I ended up having to cancel the order. I went in to the restaurant to make a new order and one of cashiers, David, was friendly, extremely helpful about the situation, and overall made me feel welcomed and taken care of. I ordered some of the Brilla tacos with chips and queso dip and they were amazing. The Brilla tacos tasted great and I give them an 8/10, but only because they were really greasy. But the chips and queso dip surprised me though. The queso dip was deceiving at first due to it being pretty thin and not as thick as most that I’ve had, but I have to say it was literally the best queso dip from a taco joint that I’ve ever had before. Not only because it was the best tasting, but because it was so thin that I wasn’t wasting a bunch of it on each bite. Chips and queso dip were 10/10 for sure.
