We planned a trip for the day to Cape May to get away from our norm, see a bit of ocean and sand, and visit one of the many lighthouses of NJ. What's a trip without a nice dinner? I went strictly by Google maps, and chose based on reviews, menu selections, and location before we were anywhere near the area. I made a great choice yet again. Go me! For a Wednesday evening they weren't busy, and there was ample parking. I'm sure this changes on the weekends considering our experience... everything was spotless, bright (but not TOO bright), attractive, good service, and great food! I had a Black Cherry Old Fashioned from the cocktail menu to start. Mixed right, and worth the price. We also had ice water (filtered- important. I am sometimes surprised by places who DON'T do this, for the sake of taste and food quality!), and soda. Our food was brought out rather quickly, and much appreciated after skipping around most of the day eating Slim Jims and chips to get by! He ordered the chicken entrée with mushrooms, garlic mashed potatoes, and green beans (I'm sorry I can't remember proper name for the dish), all very good. I opted to throw together 3 appetizers and call it a meal! So I went with pork belly for the first time, loved it. Tastes like a bacon/ham cross, served with light toast. Didn't have a clue about the proper way to eat it but I made it work lol! Second, the curry cauliflower. Very nice dish, shaved parm cheese on top, although I thought it was a bit too salty. He tasted, isn't a fan of curry, but still liked it. And then there's the Brussels sprouts... generous portion served on a loooong plate. Looks good, tastes even better! Halved sprouts mixed with bacon (of course!), dried cranberries, and red onion, with balsamic. It was my favorite. They also included a small bread basket with soft butter. Definitely recommend, my only disappointment was that we didn't have more time to dawdle- after dinner, make sure you wander your way over to the beach for a stroll to settle your food, as this restaurant and hotel is just a stone's...
Read moreHorribly run and extremely rude. My husband and I got there about 4:30 because they open at 5 for dinner and don't accept reservations. We asked if we needed to do anything such as put our name down that we're waiting. We were told no and to feel free to get a drink at the outside bar while waiting. At 4:55 we walked up towards the tables because we noticed some other people standing there who were also waiting to be sat. At 5:00, we see the people being seated who got there after us. We, and the folks standing in front of us were confused because we had all been waiting before anyone else. We asked why others were being seated before us. We were told we had to check in inside. Us and the other table waiting ahead of us said that we were told just to wait where we were and the hostess said that now we had to go inside and wait. In all this commotion, 5 more tables had been sat before us. We went inside and told the other hostess what happened. While this had happened, I had taken my mask off for a minute to adjust it. I was yelled at to put my mask back on. I did because I was just fixing it. Finally we were being sat. The hostess takes us outside to the tables. 90% of the tables are under a tent and just a handful were out in the sun. The hostess attempts to seat us at a table in the direct sun. I told her that I did not want to sit out in the sun when there were plenty of tables available under the tent. We were told that we would have to wait then. I said that I had been waiting since 4:30 when many tables were seated before us. They obviously tried to seat us there on purpose because we complained about not being seated when we were there first. At this point I said screw this, I'm not eating here because if we did, they would probably spit in my food. I've never been treated so horribly in my life. I had worked in restaurants for years. That is not how you treat your customers. We walked down to Sea Salt and had one of the most delicious...
Read moreI have to agree with other reviewers. The service was not good and the food was bland. We waited about 15 minutes before our waitress came to the table. A young man gave us water initially and I asked him for a wine list. He had no idea what I was talking about. When the waitress came to take our drink order, we decided we better order everything because we didnât know when she would be back. We ordered 3 appetizers: The brussels sprouts, the cauliflower, and French onion soup. The brussels sprouts for the best. The cauliflower was bland and unappetizing in the way it looked. The soup was just OK. Four entrĂ©es, three of us ordered salmon. It was flavorless. We all thought it needed some type of sauce. One ordered the pasta with chicken. Again, it had absolutely no flavor. The chicken with mushrooms was the best entrĂ©e, but still not good. As we were paying our bill, the table next to us asked the same young man who gave the water to us if he could get a waitress to come over. They two had been waiting about 15 minutes before anybody approached their table. We commented that the same thing happened to us and wished them luck. As we were leaving, our same waitress came up to the table and made some excuse as to why she had not been over sooner. I would understand if the restaurant was crowded, but this is mid week and the restaurant had many open tables. It is unlikely we will...
