The fiancée and I stayed at The Mission Inn this past weekend. We were visiting Cape May for the first time with hopes of learning a bit about the area before committing to a full-on move this upcoming summer.
The Mission Inn is beautiful. There are large common areas downstairs which include: an entrance room sitting area with fireplace; a side room (den) replete with a fridge full of complimentary wine, soda, and fresh appetizers in the afternoon; and a large dining room for breakfast.
Susan and Ray have been running the Mission Inn for 11 years and in that time, they have made many modern improvements. We stayed in the San Francisco de Asís room. You can get a feel for the room from the pics I've included (and the pics on their website) but when you are standing in the room itself, it is quite an improved experience.
The deep jacuzzi tub sports soothing jet streams and bath salts. The bathroom's shower is large and has at least six different settings that includes four low, knoblike shower heads that can align to target specific upper or lower back muscles.
The recessed, electric fireplace is a pleasant touch that has two settings: "heat" and "just for aesthetics."
The rug is soft and fluffy. Take a few steps with bare feet and you may think twice before collapsing onto the king sized bed. But then again, that mattress topper is tough to beat when your whole body sinks into it.
Here's an interesting detail: when you turn the fan on low at night and switch on the desk lamp, the sky painting on the ceiling turns into ocean waves. It's quite tranquil, especially after a couple glasses of cabernet franc.
Aside from Susan's keen eye for decoration, she is also a font of knowledge and can probably help you with any questions you may have about anything Cape May related. Within 15 minutes of us relaying that we were considering a move to the area, she was putting us in touch with a realtor friend.
Susan and Ray take pride in their home and the extra effort in hospitality translates to a happy visit for all who enter. We only stayed for one night and we had a lot to do in just under 24 hours, but the time that we spent at The Mission Inn made us feel at home.
Oh, and breakfast was creative, delicious, and tailored to our...
Read moreMy husband and I returned last weekend to our favorite place to stay in Cape May, at The Mission Inn. This was our 7th visit there, and definetly won't be our last! Ray and Susan make you feel like one of the family. From the minute you cross the threshhold of their beautiful Inn, you can almost feel the peace and tranquility, and all worries disappear, since every aspect of your stay is taken care of by them! There is no need to bring anything other than your clothes. All rooms are equiped with anything you need. Hairdryers, body wash, lotion, shampoo, bath salts for the jacuzzi, right down to bath robes for each couple are provided as well as a bottle of wine or sparkling cider and peppermint patties! The linens and towels are plush, and the beds make sleeping a pleasant experience. Every room has a flat screen TV as well as a docking station for your IPod. Check the website and you will see not your average Bed & Breakfast. Leslie, their weekend Chef is a treasure, and I truly can't wait to see what she has created when we stay. At 4PM cocktails and appetizer are served. Their is always soda, ice tea, lemonade, wine in the fridge which you can use whenever, and as well as a Keurig with all different coffees and teas. This year when we came, we found a bottle of port which warmed us up on those cold November nights. They have taken care of every detail, and if you come up with something that you need and it isn't there, it won't be for long. Bikes and beach chairs are plentiful and are located in the garage at your leisure. Honestly, there is no place I would rather be than at The Mission Inn in Cape May. We have made the last 7 of our Anniversaries there, and one of our daughters spent her Honeymoon there last August, and will now make The Mission Inn a...
