Every Saturday after Thanksgiving I take my family to chop down a Christmas Tree. It’s one of our little family traditions. We also like to go out to breakfast before we go a choppin. Unfortunately I subjected them to the Deerfield Family Restaurant.

Upon entering there are 2 things that I notice right away. The dining area is clean and spacious and for a Saturday morning there are not many people there. Maybe it’s because the atmosphere there is cold and uninviting, like the family I believe run the place. Maybe it’s because there was no background music playing. We are into the Christmas season some Christmas music would be nice. I’m a festive guy. Or maybe it’s because the food sucks. It could be that too.

Every time I go out I like to order something different, so I’m not always reviewing the same dish. Here I ordered Pecan Waffles with a side of sausage links with a Coke but no Coke Pepsi. The waffle was dry and flavorless, uber bland. It was reminiscent of sofa cushion foam. A gallon of imitation maple syrup didn’t even help. The sausage links were albeit tasty but cold (like the atmosphere).

There is a mild odor that hits the nose the moment you walk in. Then you smell the food. I have been here twice. The first time was extraordinary. My medium rare steak was flawless! Everything was cooked to perfection the service was nothing to write home about however naturally I wanted to come back for some amazing food. So two weeks go by and we decide to take the whole family after church a table of 5. Ordering exactly to a t what I had had the last time. Not once but twice my steak came back as bouncy as rubber overcooked and terrible cuts of meat. So I ordered something different even this to was too hard of a task apparently. Instead of being compensated for my meal I was charged for the second. The service this time however was amazing. So if the service is terrible your food will be decent if the service is good your food is not done right. We will never again come here. 145.00 is what is cost to leave beyond irritated and feeling as though this place truly does not care about quality among its staff and what is coming out of its kitchen. I have been doing food reviews for a long time. A one star review from me for the food.One star for service. I'll be nice and give two. Beyond disgusted and disappointed. Does not recommend try Brothers in Rapid City. It isn't much farther from here and they have good service and great food all the time. Deerfield you absolutely failed...

Food:

I ordered an 8 0z. Angus steak medium rare with a salad and mashed potatoes. The salad was brought out immediately after ordering. The salad itself was a good size and included lettuce, tomatoes, and onion with your choice of dressing. It tasted good.

Then after about a 5 minutes wait my steak and mashed potatoes were brought out. The steak was covered in onions and resting in juice. The steak was all right, not well seasoned but it was medium rare. The onions were caramelized and tasted good. The mashed potatoes had a sort of rubbery and thick texture. They tasted fine but the texture was off and they definitely are not home made. I paid 20.24 for the meal and a pepsi.

Overall: I give the food a 3/5.

Service: I was greeted at the door by a young man who asked my party size and where i would like to sit. The waitress came over immediately and was friendly. I have no issues with service as it was a nice environment.

I give the service 5/5 stars.

Atmosphere: The restaurant is right off of I-80 next to a gas station and two hotels. It looks nice outside and inside. It has a clean and well decorated interior.
