This was about 5-6 yrs ago, since I had first gone there, but we had an amazing dine-in experience. First off the atmosphere was great. There were so many people. It was so lively with everyone going there to share the one thing in common and that was to have amazing food and looking around everywhere, the patrons were definitely enjoying theirs. Plus to see if it's a good Asian restaurant, let's see if there are any Asians actually dining in and YES, it was flooded with all types of Asian families, especially the Filipinos, so that was a good indication to me that this place was the real deal. All the food looked good, especially looking at the others' tables, it was difficult to actually decided what to get.
I think we got the fried pork belly, which had a delicious crisp to it. It was like biting into a pork rind but then getting into some extra bonus pork meat afterward. It came with a Sachaa Chinese BBQ Fish like sauce. I'm not always a fan of Sachaa, but it worked well with this dish.
We also got a ham shank stir fry, and that was amazing too. I don't know much about Filipino cuisine, but it did remind me of similar Chinese cuisine that I had had before and that just took me to a just-like-home experience.
Lastly, we had a stir-fry noodle dish which, ya can never go wrong with that. And this was no exception, great tasting food, homey. It was a great place to go to, and I'd go here again, if it weren't 2.5 hrs away, but everyone that lives in the Chicago+ suburbs area are really lucky to have a place like this. It'd fatten me up in an instance, if we had one in Madison, lol. Thanks for the great food, and the service was fantastic. Very nice polite staff, very helpful with answering...
Read moreI have eaten at many a Pinoy restaurant, both here in LA and in various locations in the Philippines, and the only place in which I have eaten that comes close to the wonderful food I had on Luzon and Palawan was right here at Hong Ning.
I was in the mood for pork in a big way, and with Pilipino food that almost always means fatty pork belly. We had the liempo, the crispy pata, lechon and sisig to satisfy that urge (and then some); in addition we sampled the pancit and chicken inasal. Everything was delicious. The pata was divinely crispy but not crunchy; the liempo was tangy, saucy and tasty; the lechon had thin, crisp, succulent skin and tender yet juicy meat with appropriately light seasoning and the sisig was the best I've had outside of the Philippines, even if it wasn't made from a pig's head (as is traditional and fantastic, for my likewise ignorant American friends). The pancit bihon was just fine (I've had better, but that was in Tayabas) and the chicken inasal was unexpectedly tasty: delicate seasoning so as not to overwhelm the flavor of the chicken, and the single large breast we received was unusually juicy and tender for grilled chicken. I couldn't do better myself--and I'm a damn good cook!
This is a good place for Whities like me to introduce themselves to Pinoy foods (a thing I strongly recommend for those planning on visiting the Philippines, or those who just love good food and to say hell with the calories), mainly because everyone working here speaks English. If you expect 5-star service, go to some snobbish French bistro for inferior food and the ass kissing you require. Regular folks will like it...
Read moreFantastic place! Excellent food and service coming from a quaint and homey restaurant. Well-made traditional Filipino food is served here and is reminiscent of a delicious home-cooked meal. We called ahead and ordered for pick-up. We ordered the crispy sisig, miki bihon, egg rolls, crispy pata kare kare, lechon kawali, and halo halo. It was all very delicious and was an exemplary taste of the cooking back home in the Philippines. The sisig was rich with flavor and practically melted in your mouth while some of the pieces still had a bit of crunch to it, which was perfect! I only wish it was cooked with hot peppers. The lechon was reheated in our airfryer, which got it crunchy again, the kare kare was expertly made. The pata meat was stewed to perfection and very tender. The sauce was savory, and the vegetables were so fresh that they still had a nice snap to them when chewed. The bihon noodles were plentiful and euphoric. The eggrolls were crispy and meaty, and the sauce that came with it was tart and tangy. Overall, my experience was an excellent one. The food was ready for pick-up at the time given. The dining area was clean with ample seating. The prices seemed fair, as the portions were large enough to feed several people, and the volume seemed appropriate given what the prices were. There was a sign posted about how they are short-staffed, so please be patient with any longer waiting times and call ahead accordingly if ordering take-out. Again, this was an excellent culinary experience. Thank you for the great food and...
