First time here... The food: The steak burrito was covered with a white melted cheese dip that forced me to use a fork and knife to eat it instead of being able to grab it and bite in to it, it wasnt bad, just different. The meat itself was very good and had good balance of a crispy and season flavor. The rice that came with it wasnt anything to rave about but it wasnt bad and the quantity was just right. The initial salsa offered with the chips was too mild for my liking but the server brought me a much hotter salsa that had the right amount of kick. The orchata drink was good also. I give the food a B.
Service: My server Arturo was friendly and courteous. He checked on me often and didnt rush me out. B+
Establishment: Very friendly atmosphere; clean and nice size; it looks family friendly. nice place to have a taco and a beer. Im not a big fan of places that dont have the bare necessities on the table like extra napkins, geniune spicy hot sauce, salt and pepper and such. Grade: B-
Overall, the cheese dipped burrito was decent but it left me wondering how "mexican authentic" this place really is. Next time I'm in the area I'm going to try one of their specialty dishes and maybe that will...
Read moreIt is with great reserve that I find it necessary to change my review of Los Tres Magueyes on SW Maynard Rd in Cary. Our Family has a very long and personal relationship with this restaurant. Our first visit just after the birth of my Son in 1992, and going back at least twice a month since then.
The time between visits became much greater for the past few years as we found the food becoming more and more commercial, and as a result; more bland.
Upon our last visit, which was a bit earlier in the day, with more natural light filling the dining area, we decided that we would probably not return. The place was grungy. While waiting for our food, I studied the interior and noticed that the windows and sills, and walls were in dire need of cleaning. The ceiling tiles were the originals and badly needed replacing.
Sadly, the Owners have found it more convenient to hoard the profits and not re-invest any money, other than the new seating that was installed a few years back.
So, sadly, we say goodbye to an old friend. But fortunately, found a new friend. We visited the La Rancherita in Apex, and it was Wonderful! But that's another Story...
Read moreWe've been coming to this location for years. We hadn't been there is a while (so many restaurants in Cary to choose from), so we thought we'd go to our old standby Mexican spot. Two of us ordered the Fajita Taco Salad and I ordered the Taco Salad with chicken. I can't stop thinking about how disgusting they turned out. The waitress never came back to see if everything was OK (there were maybe 6 tables with guests and at least 2 servers) My salad had some tough shredded chicken in a wad on the bottom, a bunch of runny beans, one tomato, maybe a half cup of salad and a tablespoon of cheese. The bowls tasted like they were fried in old dirty oil. The Fajita bowls were even more disgusting. My son stirred up his ingredients and it literally turned into a bean soup it was so runny. He thought about asking for a spoon because it looked like soup. I can't say we will never go back, but this time was a big fail for the restaurant, and likely a reason for why they were so empty in a place we used to wait...
