UPDATE: LIVE ROACH in our salad. We ordered takeout on June 6, 2020. Got home and our take out salad had a live roach running around in it. Made us drive all the way back to return all the food before they would credit our money back. The manager barely apologized, mumbled sorry, only after looking totally sceptical that the roach would be in the salad. The review used to be 5 stars, I can't do 0 stars so I guess 1 star it is. We will NEVER eat at any of the Los Tres Magueyes locations again. Poor customer service and roaches, not a good combo. Previous posted review: Our "go to" Mexican place. Good food, good service and good prices. The staff is very friendly. The food is always fresh and hot.

Los Tres Magueyes Mexican Restaurant is a great local chain to the greater Raleigh area that serves Mexican style cuisine. The service is amazing and fast! This location sets the atmosphere to make it guests feel like they're in a Mexican cantina from the Old Wild West era. I ordered the Chori Pollo burrito which came stuffed with grilled chicken and chorizo inside a burrito-sized flour tortilla, topped with queso and served with rice and salad or refried beans. The food was made fresh and very delicious. I highly recommend Los Tres Magueyes to anybody looking for a quick, not too expensive, Mexican Restaurant.

My office used to be across the street from this Los Tres Magueyes. And back in the day, we would eat lunch here as many 4 or even 5 days a week. We’ve since moved the office so I don’t get by there nearly as often as I should, but took the family there Monday evening for dinner and the manager/owner was still there working as hard as ever. We spoke briefly about the past and he informed me that he just celebrated being for 30 years. Time flies…. Anyway we enjoyed the full compliment of chips and salsa, then I finished with Verde pork burrito. Amazing, just like it was 30 years ago.

First time here... The food: The steak burrito was covered with a white melted cheese dip that forced me to use a fork and knife to eat it instead of being able to grab it and bite in to it, it wasnt bad, just different. The meat itself was very good and had good balance of a crispy and season flavor. The rice that came with it wasnt anything to rave about but it wasnt bad and the quantity was just right. The initial salsa offered with the chips was too mild for my liking but the server brought me a much hotter salsa that had the right amount of kick. The orchata drink was good also. I give the food a B.

Service: My server Arturo was friendly and courteous. He checked on me often and didnt rush me out. B+

Establishment: Very friendly atmosphere; clean and nice size; it looks family friendly. nice place to have a taco and a beer. Im not a big fan of places that dont have the bare necessities on the table like extra napkins, geniune spicy hot sauce, salt and pepper and such. Grade: B-

Overall, the cheese dipped burrito was decent but it left me wondering how "mexican authentic" this place really is. Next time I'm in the area I'm going to try one of their specialty dishes and maybe that will...

It is with great reserve that I find it necessary to change my review of Los Tres Magueyes on SW Maynard Rd in Cary. Our Family has a very long and personal relationship with this restaurant. Our first visit just after the birth of my Son in 1992, and going back at least twice a month since then.

The time between visits became much greater for the past few years as we found the food becoming more and more commercial, and as a result; more bland.

Upon our last visit, which was a bit earlier in the day, with more natural light filling the dining area, we decided that we would probably not return. The place was grungy. While waiting for our food, I studied the interior and noticed that the windows and sills, and walls were in dire need of cleaning. The ceiling tiles were the originals and badly needed replacing.

Sadly, the Owners have found it more convenient to hoard the profits and not re-invest any money, other than the new seating that was installed a few years back.

So, sadly, we say goodbye to an old friend. But fortunately, found a new friend. We visited the La Rancherita in Apex, and it was Wonderful! But that's another Story...

We've been coming to this location for years. We hadn't been there is a while (so many restaurants in Cary to choose from), so we thought we'd go to our old standby Mexican spot. Two of us ordered the Fajita Taco Salad and I ordered the Taco Salad with chicken. I can't stop thinking about how disgusting they turned out. The waitress never came back to see if everything was OK (there were maybe 6 tables with guests and at least 2 servers) My salad had some tough shredded chicken in a wad on the bottom, a bunch of runny beans, one tomato, maybe a half cup of salad and a tablespoon of cheese. The bowls tasted like they were fried in old dirty oil. The Fajita bowls were even more disgusting. My son stirred up his ingredients and it literally turned into a bean soup it was so runny. He thought about asking for a spoon because it looked like soup. I can't say we will never go back, but this time was a big fail for the restaurant, and likely a reason for why they were so empty in a place we used to wait...
