Conti’s Pizzeria & Pit — Restaurant in Castle Shannon

My first visit to this place was a takeout order. I did the Dave Portnoy thing and ordered the plain cheese pizza to go. I've got to say that I was pretty impressed. The pie had a delightfully thin, foldable crust with a nice "undercarriage." The sauce had just the right amount of spice, and the cheese blend was spot on. I'll be back to try a more "accessorized" pizza soon, and will check out the dining room next time. And I've heard the meatballs are great, so I'll try those too!

UPDATE: I stopped at Conti's to sit down for lunch with my son when they opened at 11 a.m., and we were warmly welcomed by the owner when he unlocked the door. This time I ordered a couple of the meatballs. They were superb, with a really nice marinara, and were served quickly. We ordered one of their specialty pizzas, APIZZA SPICY, and it was excellent. For a guy who has been loving Pittsburgh local pizzaria pizza and other Italian food for 40 years; Conti's Pizzaria and Pit takes the lead in a former 3 way tie between Fiori's, Mineo's and Beto's. I could probably add a few more here. Conti's pizza checked all the boxes for me for exceptional pizza. Sauce, crust and cheese obviously sourced from premium purveyors to taste this good. Their shop is only about a tenth of a mile from my home in Castle Shannon, an added bonus. The seasonal outdoor barbecue pit will definitely make it our city's most unique pizzeria. I am looking forward to that. I am sure they knew they had something good when they were giving slices out for free before the grand opening. I had such a great experiences at Conti's today. Well, we always do! Forwarded, I am one of those pain in the ass patrons. One who is a vegetarian with food allergies. The staff here goes above and beyond. Bob went out of his way to make me a custom calzone, even though it wasn’t listed on the menu. It was prepared perfectly and tasted amazing. Absolutely delicious! I really appreciate how friendly and accommodating they are. I'm impressed by their attention to detail and commitment to customer satisfaction. You can tell they care.
