Wanted a sheet cake for 50 birthday. Was told cannot do it. Wanted week from ordering. Was told they cannot make 1/4 or 1/2 sheet cake in 7 days. Simple cake IMO- White, raspberry filling, buttercream icing. Will never shop here again. Plan was cake and 4-5 dozen cookies. Lost a nice sale. Never even got to ask about cookies--on asking about cake I was just told sorry cannot do. Never tried to gather more information-like, maybe we could make another cake for you? Maybe we could do two round in your flavor? Because the clerk pulled out a round cake like I wanted and I said I was looking for a sheet cake. Was she offering me a round cake today for a week from now? As I walked in, I said I wanted a birthday cake for Sept 27. Yet she pulled out a round cake saying this is one. Week old cake? You can be a small bakery and I believe it is not that hard to make 1/2 sheet cake (flat) filling, ice it. You prefer your corporate restaurant customers. Corp acts allow you to do whatever you want-nothing custom. Again, never been to your bakery, so how does anyone walking in know you are to order months in advance? You certainly had 5 doz Cookes in your case--So are you saying no one can come in and say...give me 12 of this, 12 of those, 12 of that kind, etc.? I knew only 2 weeks ago I was hosting a 50th b-day party...managed to get a caterer yesterday and table, chair, tent rental. I will never know if you are good bakery or not. Barely got a hello from your clerk-I walked in and she saw me but turned towards back & left, another clerk came from middle door and was on phone. Office person saw me and did say hello but did not offer any help, then 1st clerk came back out and said Can I help you?--You say you are small business, but not much on customer service-again, maybe to your restaurant folks. Avg customer/small order not worth your time I guess. Bethel Bakery got my $150 order. The clerk at Bethel Bakery who took my order was pleasant, helpful, professional, young, & very polite. Offered suggestions on cake and...
Read moreUnfortunately, my last experience with Signature Desserts was extremely negative due to how the owner handled a major cake screw up. Not only did I receive a poorly executed Winnie the Pooh Bear cake design (see photos attached, nose looks like a third arm), I actually received the wrong cake batter and filling. This cake was for a major milestone, my Baby Shower. I ordered a white cake with strawberry buttercream filling but instead received a half chocolate half white cake with an overly sweet layer of raspberry filling. Mind you, I found this out as the caterer began cutting and bringing cake out during my Baby Shower, so I was very caught off guard to say the least.
I understand mistakes happen, but it’s all about how you handle them. In my opinion, this situation was not addressed well. The owner did not offer a full refund. She insisted that the cost of labor be paid, which was about half the cost of the cake. The part that really bothered me is that she kept stating “since the cake was eaten” they could offer this… and “it was delicious and everyone enjoyed it”. What in the actual world was I to do in that instance? Stop the catering team from serving people cake in the middle of my Baby Shower and return it to Signature? Additionally, assuming and insisting that people enjoyed the cake, and that it was delicious, is a bold assumption. I personally do not like chocolate cake or sugary jelly filling! I am utterly shocked that Signature would rather have a very frustrated customer (who’s family and friends buy cheesecakes and other desserts from the store) than refund us the full price of the custom sheet cake. If you’re looking at Signature Desserts for a special event beware. I couldn’t imagine the battle of trying to be reimbursed for an incorrect wedding cake. Since the owner refused a full refund, we did file a dispute for the remaining balance with our credit card company as what we ordered was...
Read moreWe entered into a contract with Signature Desserts for a two-tier decorated wedding cake, two half sheet cakes, and eight dozen cookies for pick-up one day before our wedding. When we went to pick-up our cake we were handed a very poorly decorated cake. The cake was supposed to have a piped or printed rice paper monogram on the top layer. Instead, it had the letters in crooked, rolled fondant that looked like play dough. The decorator first attempted to fix it with a printed rice paper monogram, which she carelessly cut out and put it on the cake, leaving very visible ragged edges. She next attempted to fix it with a "delicate" border to hide the edges. Instead, she framed the monogram in a crooked, uneven, thick birthday-cake like border. At this point, I was crying and behind schedule driving two hours to my wedding destination to decorate before my rehearsal, so I had no choice but to take the cake as-is and left.
In addition, our sheet cakes were scored wrong, which we caught and had to have fixed before we left. We failed to check our cookies, which upon delivery to the reception, realized were not as ordered. We ordered 8 dozen sugar cookies with white icing and pink sprinkles. Instead, we received cookies with pink and white sprinkles, much less fancy/professional looking than ordered.
Dissatisfied with my experience, I called the bakery on my drive to the wedding destination seeking to speak with the owner Linda. I was told she was not in yet but would be shortly and would return my call upon arrival. Linda did not call. I had to call her over an hour later, at which time she told me she heard I was unhappy and would not deal with me as an emotional bride now and would work with me after the wedding. To date, we have not resolved the issue, as Signature Desserts only offered a...
