I’m from northwest Alabama and have been in Maryland for 4 long years with unsatisfactory barbecue. Northwest Alabama in particular is known for tender meat, highly seasoned burnt ends, smoked pulled pork, and spicy vinegar sauces. I’ve spent countless dollars wasted trying to find anything that even remotely reminds me of home. Tonight I ordered two large pulled pork sandwiches and a rack of ribs. In fact, having regular and large options for the sandwiches was already a good sign and a staple of back home. Unfortunately, the ribs were sold out but if anything that was promising because anything hard to keep ahold of MUST be great. I’ll be ordering ahead next Thursday to pick up on Friday to try those next. As for the pulled pork, I was finally satisfied with the quality, more than satisfied really. And I love that they sold it by the pound as well. The portion was extraordinarily plentiful and they were generous with the burnt ends that clearly had a well honed and flavorful rub. The interior was tender and moist, while still dry enough to absorb either of the two provided sauces and tasted of smoke all the way through. One sauce was sweet with a kick that quickly dissipates, and the other was a spiced tangy vinegar that lingered and cut through the fatty meat. Normally I have a local spiced vinegar called “3 in one stuff” drop shipped from family back home because it’s just that good. Wieland’s sauce was a fantastic substitute unlike any I’ve found anywhere else since leaving the Deep South.
From 4 soul-less years, to an immediate regular customer, I am over the moon with Wieland’s quality in their smoked meats no less than the award winning “hole in the wall” family businesses that have been staples in my community for many decades. To top it off, their service and friendliness is unheard of with bbq this good. Finally, I have found a new place to fill the void and can confidently say that they are 100% southern belle approved!!
Edit: response generated by AI after I put a lot of thought into the review is kind of a bummer :/ but I guess good bbq places need spotty customer service after all just putting all their effort into the...
Read moreOur first visit was this past Saturday. The young men working were very helpful and polite. You could tell they had pride in the product. We explained that we came because I was looking for a new bbq place to try. They offered us a sample and we immediately ordered 1lb of brisket. As we were waiting, fresh turkey came off the smoker and we were offered a sample of that too. We loved the pepper forward rub and bought a 1/2lb of that too. This was by far some of the best bbq I've had in Maryland and I've been to quite a few places, including the places most talked about. It was an hour before closing and the quality was still top tier. The sweet sauce was so good I could drink it and I'm picky about bbq sauce. We will...
