Four star prices with two star service. This restaurant was recommended to my wife and I by two other couples, so we went here for our wedding anniversary. Our waiter was Logan. We began by ordering drinks. My wife ordered a beer and Logan asked her if she wanted it in a can or a glass. My wife said a glass. When he brought it out he simply placed the can and glass on the table beside her and walked away. He didn't even pour it for her. I told him I just wanted a lemon for my water and no other drink. Instead he brought out an iced tea. I immediately told him that's not what I ordered and had him take it away. Later, on our bill, he charged us for it until I told him to amend the bill.
You do not get even free bread at the beginning of the meal. Instead we had to order a $5 baquette.
My wife ordered the $45 beef short rib. When my wife got it it looked like a big chunk of pot roast. She questioned Logan about this and he said this is just the way they do ribs. It looked nothing like ribs.
I ordered the $32 pork schnitzel. It was not even breaded. It was simply grilled. The red cabbage was partially crunchy, which I've never experienced in any German restaurant.
Logan wasn't even the person who brought us our meals. Throughout the dinner I had to flag down other wait staff to get my water glass refilled twice. He never came to check on us to see how our meals were. He only appeared when he asked if we wanted dessert. All desserts here are $15 even for a simple slice of cake. That's ridiculous. We said no.
To pay the bill, Logan brought a credit card reader to our table. He had the gall to preset the tip amount to 20%. Hell no! I've had better service at Denny's.
Prices here are higher than on the menus others have posted on this website. I could get just as good food if not better for half the price at another restaurant. We do not...
Read moreThis used to be my favorite restaurant in Arizona, and I even posted a 5-star review a little over a year ago. We used to go here for special occasions, usually around the holidays, but sometimes on other occasions. Sadly, I can't say we will be returning. We dined here on December 22nd for a small family gathering. The service was nowhere near the level of excellence it used to be. It was obvious the place was short-staffed. In the past when food was served, it was brought out by 2-3 kitchen staff along with the waiter/waitress. This time, it was just by a lone kitchen staff member and our server was nowhere in sight. We had to wait for the guy to make multiple runs back to the kitchen to get everyone's food out, which was awkward since the ones served had to wait. What's worse, though, is the quality of the food has gone off a cliff. We ordered the usual appetizers (crab cakes, calamari, jalapeno hummus) and they lacked the taste or quality of preparation they did in the past. Hummus was inedible it was so bland. The most glaring issue was a tumbleweed salad I ordered. This has always been a must-have and I've ordered it every time I've eaten here. It didn't have any black beans in it, only a few pieces of chicken, and the lettuce was not fresh at all and it was obviously leftover from the previous day's delivery. (Or, it had been left out all morning at room temperature.) Couldn't finish it after a few bites.
This place always had consistently good food and consistently good service. My expectations were consistently met, which is why I always went back. I understand times are hard for the hospitality industry and it's difficult to find and retain quality staff, but when they charge the prices they do then the customer expectations are going to be in line with those prices - and...
Read moreAs we walked into the restaurant, we were asked to go into the bar instead of the main dining hall, which was fine for us. Asked if we were not dressed appropriately and she said oh yeah, you’re OK. We went into the bar. Then the bartender/waitress came up to us with our water. Said it didn’t tell us the special of the evening And she asked if we wanted an appetizer she walked away and I had to holler across the room We’d like an appetizer please. She walked back over to us and says do you mean the three sisters chips and salsa and I said yes. Then she brings us our drink and says are you ready to order and my mom and I look at each other and said can you wait a few minutes and she said I can take your order and put it in in like 15 minutes and I said OK when the food came out to us, She never asked us if the appetizer was good. The flatbread was a little cold she never asked us if we needed anything else. My husband really wanted, honey with his Indian flatbread. She took our order and was just so abrupt and standoffish. It was the worst experience that we had at’s Tonto’s Bar and Grill. We had a better experience with other waitresses that worked tonight than our actual bartender/waitress. This isn’t the first time that we have been into Tonto’s, and we were very displeased with the service. Unfortunately, I don’t know if we will ever be back and it’s truly sad to say that because the food is...
