La Casita Breakfast Cafe - Saw an Eggs Benedict a few weeks ago on their FB page and they said they house make their hollandaise, so I knew I needed it!
Unfortunately, the picture from the post was just a special, so I had to try out something else. I went with the “Avo Cali Bene” and a couple pancakes. Kimmy got the “Brekkie Chimi” with chorizo.
My Benedict was really good, the hollandaise was on point! It had avocado and bacon. For the poached eggs, one was absolutely perfect, the other was slightly overcooked, so I lost out on yolk on my Bene! I would have preferred a more toasted English muffin. VERY minor things compared to just how good the dish tasted.
The pancakes were unreal, 100% the best I’ve had in Cedar Rapids, and top 5 I’ve ever eaten! I normally order a side of pancakes to kinda judge a breakfast joint, and so glad I did. It almost had a birthday cake like flavor and my goodness did it ever work.
Kimmy’s chimi was done perfectly, cheese sauce was delicious, and the chorizo was perfectly spiced. The shell was nice and crispy. Quite good.
Overall, highly recommend checking it out. Very good meal and...
Read moreWas pretty disappointed. It seemed like the staff was overwhelmed as it took forever for the waitress to get to us once we were seated and then for the cooks to get us our food once we ordered. Our waitress was very nice once she did get to us. The biggest frustration was that at 10am - not even halfway through their Saturday - they were out of cinnamon rolls so I couldn't order what I wanted and they were out of vegan eggs so my friend couldn't order what he wanted. I had to get something else and he had to order a skillet with no eggs and vegan chorizo (and cheese maybe?). Was not impressed by that nor by my replacement dish of cinnamon roll french toast. The place is pretty small and loud with all the people that get crammed in but that's just something you sign up for with an establishment like that. Overall was disappointed, especially considering that I'd been here before the ownership changed and they renamed themselves La Casita (adding some Mexican-themed dishes) and I do not remember having a negative...
Read moreDisappointing. Apparently they raised their prices, but did not post that anywhere in the restaurant, or on the menu. When I received the bill and asked the waitress, she knew of the change, but seemed surprised it wasn’t on the menu. This is unprofessional at best, and dishonest at worst. I was surprised the issue was not resolved after I identified it. Charging me above the menu price and sticking to your guns just isn’t right. While the 12% price increase only amounted to $1.61 in my case, it’s the principle that is at issue, plus a lack of transparency, or willingness to resolve their mistake. I can’t recommend going here because of this.
The cafe was pleasant with adequate seating, and a warm decor. The food was plentiful and fresh. I had one of the skillets which was good. The waitress and other staff were friendly and attentive.
Add up front and honest pricing, and a system to resolve problems with customers, and this would be a 5...
