Bit of a complicated review here. It’s probably gonna come off as negative, but bear with me because it's really not. I plan on coming back. This place is impeccably remodeled, and represents a stunning example of respectfully renovating to a modern aesthetic while still honoring history and location. and their menu looks awesome.
I came here today after having called ahead looking for a 'take and bake tray' of cinnamon rolls. I placed my order for cinnamon rolls and grabbed a couple other dessert items as well because I was excited to try their different offerings as a first-time visitor. I sat at the table to chill and wait. The owner was in the lobby too, and we were having a nice chit chat. After receiving my order, I expressed surprise and dismay when they came to me in brown craft containers instead of a metal tin for reheating in the oven. I was told that no they don’t do that, and that they also don’t sell raw ones for take and bake. I get that they don’t sell raw ones. But all the imagery from Google reviews and their website led me to believe I would be receiving a tin that could be reheated in the oven. The owner brushed it off of it and told me that I just microwave them for 30 seconds and they’re good.
I’m sure that’s true, but it was just really not what I was trying to buy. I had even called ahead before driving the 15 minutes to get to Celina downtown, and asked if they sold "take and bake trays of cinnamon rolls". I left feeling a little confused and bummed. I re-checked Google and the website to make sure I wasn’t confusing them with another location. After confirming that it was pretty reasonable for me to be let down because I didn't get what I thought I was paying for ( based on info from their website), I decided to just go in and see if I could return them. Otherwise the experience would have left me feeling super jaded and not wanted to come back...and I really do love spending my dollars at local Celina, and I’m looking forward to future visits here.
It was an awkward conversation. Let’s be honest, it’s never fun as a customer to try and advocate for an unmet expectation; and as a business, it sucks having someone be disappointed in your service or product. I’ve been a brick and mortar small business owner so I get that.
Owner and counter staff went above and beyond, and they refunded me for the cinnamon rolls, and told me I could just keep them. (But I left them, hoping the staff were able to enjoy them as treats. I declined taking them because I would have felt unscrupulous; and I also planned to head out and find the exact cinnamon rolls I wanted... and didn’t want a bunch of extra baked goods laying on my counter). BUT they ALSO refunded me for the other bakery items that I kept. I pointed it out when I received my refund receipt, and tried to repay for those items, but the cashier was insistent that they just wanted to fully comp me. That was very generous, and they certainly did not need to do that. They didn’t NEED to refund me at all, so I’m very grateful that they were willing to work with me.
Their website says that they are sold by the half dozen. I did didn’t see that detail initially (because mobile is tiny), so maybe the issue is that at the counter she asked me how many I wanted and I said five instead of six. I wish she would have just told me I need one more to get the full tray. Perhaps that would’ve cleared this all up. I still don’t know if they do sell trays, but if they do I wanna buy a half dozen of the orange ones because in looking further at their website, those look bomb. For what it’s worth, on their website they also show pictures of individual cinnamon rolls in tiny metal tins. I’m at a loss friends.
Oatmeal cream pies are a petite, rustic, and quite good. Very light and fluffy cream. Hearty oatmeal cookies.
Anyway, if you’ve made it this far, you should know that this Wednesday (first day of the CISD school) they're doing a mimosa event and you get a discount bracelet for...
Read moreOur first time here, and checking out places as we are moving to Celina. Tried it out this morning for a late breakfast. Cute restaurant and nice to see a new places popping up in Celina.
I am hoping our next experience will be better however. Super friendly staff first off as they greeting us, let us know they would be right with us, and we could tell the staff was moving and taking care of customers. After a moment, a hostess asked us how many (2) and asked if we have reservations (good sign of a popular place) we said no, and were told that it would be a bit. Shortly after, we were seated and we asked for outside as inside was quite noisy. On the deck we were seated in the sun, and asked if we could move, but were told all tables were reserved or taken. No worries, but there were 3 tables for 4-5 open on the grass/yard area. We ordered our food, and after a little wait my meal came out and looked great (Eggs Benedict with house bread, bacon and potatoes), my wife's was yet to come (two eggs sunny side up with tomatoes). The waiter noted her's was delayed and they were "getting it right". It finally came out but it was fried eggs, overcooked a bit, and very mushy tomatoes. The waiter did the right thing and took these off our bill. Overall food that was right was very good, but we could have been seated at one of the tables in the shade / umbrellas as no one arrived while we were there.
We will be back, I think it was bad timing and perhaps the kitchen was a bit overworked, but it has great reviews, and staff were awesome. Pricey (Benedicts $16, the two eggs and tomatoes that were comped are $14 which seems high for...
Read moreMy husband and I had brunch at The Wick and were blown away. The food? Perfection. Every bite was bursting with flavor and made with obvious care. The staff? So friendly and down-to-earth, they made us feel right at home.
The space itself has a calming, heartwarming vibe — elegantly curated for a truly relaxing ambiance. You can tell the owners have poured their hearts and souls into creating something special here, and it shows in every moment. Their daughter behind the bar was absolutely wonderful — she baristas like a babe and adds her love to every order. All staff members we met had such a happy energy - together they all make it a wonderful atmosphere.
There is a beautiful outdoor seating area with enormous mature trees, providing shade and a peaceful stillness. Perfect to kick back and relax.
I see some reviews on here mentioning a wait or slower service — remember, The Wick has limited indoor tables and every dish is made from scratch. Wholesome real food. This is a true neighborhood gem, not a fast-food chain. The very thing that makes it so special — the freshness, the quality, the personal touch — also means it takes a little more time. But if you can bring a dash of patience and a bit of grace, you’ll be rewarded with one of the most delicious, heartfelt meals around. Good things — really good things — take time.
If you haven’t been yet, go. You’ll leave full, happy, and already planning...
