With so much of Prosper and surrounding areas growing so fast, I was excited to try a more of a mom/pop “farm to table” restaurants. Downtown Celina is one of the few places that still has that small town feel.
I can always tell the quality of customer service/management on their level of responses to reviews. NO responses to any google reviews. (No surprise there)
Unfortunately like many I was very disappointed with my visit here.
For starters… their phone does not work. Online ordering is also “down.”
With children at home, I was looking to pick up the food to go and bring it back. With both of my contact options unavailable… my only choice was to go in.
I was not greeted warmly. The staff was very stale. Looked to be offended that I was walking in at 8:15pm (45 minutes before closing).
Upon bringing BOTH of these issues up to the cashier (no more than a teenage boy) I was told “oh yeah we turned the phone off because we got too busy” and “yeah the online ordering is always messing and or going down”
WOW.
Super unprofessional responses. The young man (again not older than 16 or 17) w/ clearly no customer service experience barely made eye contact with me.
Upon receiving a notification that my order was ready… I was handed a box of food.
I asked for a bag… and the worker (now female teenager) looked startled.
She proceeds to put it in a bag, with no silverware or napkins. When I asked for these things.. again hesitation and contusion (because it’s such an outlandish request). She barely said 2 words.
I am super disappointed and will not be back. Seems that these teenagers need an adult on staff to help + better management to stay on top of issue. Having no phone/online ordering is a huge red flag. Especially when the staff seems to accept these as “normal issues” and do not seem to care.
Food was okay. Fries were sitting under a heat lamp and sandwich’s tasted like a drive thru. “Farm to table” is a big reach. Don’t waste...
Read moreThe food here is consistently flavorful, and the quick menu is excellent. As someone in the hospitality industry, I’m genuinely impressed by how much quality food comes out of such a small kitchen. The cooks are efficient, and the majority of the staff is courteous and hardworking—they really do a fantastic job.
Unfortunately, one unpleasant experience with a single staff member overshadowed an otherwise great visit. The hostess taking our order was noticeably rude to my children. While they were trying to decide on their drinks (as kids sometimes need a moment), she abruptly cut in, addressing them with impatience. It wasn’t just the interruption—it was her tone and the hand slamming on the register that set the wrong tone. I initially tried to give her the benefit of the doubt, assuming she was under pressure.
However, the behavior didn’t stop there. After my kids sat down to color quietly with a book and pencils provided by the diner, the same hostess approached and told us to tear the pages out so others could use the book. There were plenty of unused books, and no other children waiting—this felt completely unnecessary and, frankly, unkind. She then took the book away altogether, as if simply annoyed by our presence.
This kind of hostility has no place in a family-oriented environment. One person's attitude negatively affected what could have been an enjoyable meal, despite the excellent food and the efforts of the rest of the team, who were kind and apologetic—though they had nothing to apologize for.
This employee may be better suited to a role that doesn’t involve customer interaction, especially with families. I hope management takes note because the rest of the team deserves better than to have their hard work...
Read moreIf you’re looking for the best restaurant in Celina, TX, look no further than Toasted Walnut Café. I’ve been a repeat customer here for months, and I can honestly say I’ve worked my way through the entire menu — there isn’t a single miss. Every dish is crafted with intention, and you can taste the care and heart behind the food.
The atmosphere is warm and uplifting. From the inviting design to the Bible verses on the walls and booths, you can feel the values and passion of the people running this place. It’s not just a restaurant — it’s an experience where hospitality and great food meet.
As for the food? Flawless. My seasonal favorites rotate, but right now the standout for me is the Smoked Turkey Sandwich on Steroids with Sweet Fries. The turkey is perfectly smoked, layered with flavor, and paired with those sweet potato fries that come out crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, and just seasoned enough to make every bite addictive. The balance of textures and flavors is spot on — this is comfort food done at a high level.
Toasted Walnut isn’t just a place to grab a bite; it’s a local gem that truly represents Celina. Whether it’s breakfast, lunch, or something in between, you’ll find something that hits the spot every time. You can tell the owners and staff truly care about what they’re creating, and that makes a world of difference.
I recommend Toasted Walnut to everyone — families, friends, and anyone who appreciates fresh, intentional cooking. In a town that’s growing fast, this place is a reminder that food can still be personal, soulful, and...
