UPDATE: They opened the patio recently - the day they opened it we were there and decided to go outside as it was a beautiful day. Had to leave 3 minutes later as we were covered in ticks!!! They were everywhere on the tables and luckily we had extra clothes on so were able to strip down before getting in our vehicle. Why would you open the patio without checking for ticks and other creatures??? Never, never again!!
The food is basic diner food, nothing to write home about. A large selection of food choices which is not a good sign if you want good diner fare. A friend had the reuben months ago and said he wasn't impressed, but it's not his sandwich of choice so his comment did not surprise me. I, however, love reubens - it's my favorite sammie and if it's on a menu, it's what I order so when I finally visited the Sandbar I decided to try it. Sadly, I have to agree with my friend, it's just not good at all. There is something off with the sauerkraut they use - it tasted horrible so I scraped it off my sandwich but the bit that I did consume made me very ill about an hour after I left. When I mentioned it to the waitress, she didn't say she'd inform the cook, but defended the kraut saying they make a ton of reubens daily (highly, highly doubtful as I was there at peak time and there were only 4 tables occupied).
The place is pretty clean but the table needed a better wipe down and the salt shaker was so greasy it slid out of my hand and I had to go wash up after touching it. I've never in my life had to wash my hands from a salt shaker before!
The staff was friendly but they did spend more time chatting in the front of the house than waiting on the few occupied tables, to the point that I just about got out of my seat to get a drink refill.
I loved the atmosphere though - being on the lake is this diner's...
Read moreStaff here is very unorganized. I was supposed to start working here but after training, the manager and owner never answered my calls or texts after telling me I had a job and training me. More then 1 time I have tried to go in during normal business hours, and they are just closed. No bad weather or power issues, they just didn't feel like honoring the schedule they made and published online? Honestly you can do better. Hire better more responsible staff, keep your promises and I think it'd probably be better for all your customers if you were actually open when you say you will be. How dissapointing is it to show up for lunch or dinner when it says online that your open, and no one is there... If your going to run a business, then run it. Don't give the reins to support staff who just don't want to do their job. Do your job or hire someone who will. I am very disappointed in all of my experiences here. By far one of the most disappointing restaurant work experiences I have ever had. If there was an option to give you no stars...
Read moreCame in for a late lunch with my family and the service was terrible! Waitress had no idea of specials, brought my drink out 10min after I ordered it, my children waited as the food server walked past 3 times then brought 2 Styrofoam cups out for them and looked completely confused with who ordered what and my children looked at her confused because they didn't even get straws for their Styrofoam to-go cups. That's just the beginning of the bad experience...food was overpriced and substandard to even some fast food restaurants. The child size hamburger was the same size patty as my so called half pound patty melt sandwich. I am not ever going to return to this establishment, even though it's in my hometown. A complete embarrassment to the town for sure! To top it off, the clueless Waitress put the bill on the corner of the table in front of my 9 year old daughter... wow...that's all I have. Should have just...
