This was my 2nd time eating at The Mexican and while the food overall tasted good, the service was not and the food portions were very small. They were busy so I’m not upset about the service - more-so the fact that my group never heard an apology once. We waited 25 minutes for our drinks, and had to flag the server down multiple times to ask for our appetizers, drinks, napkins, etc. Just an “i’m sorry for the wait” would have made us feel better.
The thing that was really disappointing was the portions. $12 for a “large” margarita that was at most, 14oz? I would hate to seeOver how big the small size was. Then, $10 for a trio dip that contains guac, queso, and salsa, each in 2oz sample cups? And i know the excuse is going to be “the price increase in food” but in reality, the avocado is going to be the most expensive ingredient in that trio dip. Even a small guac is 8oz and is only $8.50 at The Mexican. The small cheese dip is also about 8oz for $5. The salsa is $3.50 for 8oz. Overall, if we did our math (which i’m sure not many people care to) we could have ordered small sizes of each of these dips for $17 and gotten a total of 24oz. The $10 we paid for a total of 6oz in the sample cups is a ripoff.
Overall, we go out to eat mexican often and never felt so disappointed after leaving a mexican restaurant. We spent $76 on two entrees, the trio dip, 2 ‘large’ margs, and a draft beer. We could get the same thing at Fiesta for less than $50. Being a small business doesn’t give you a hall pass for overcharging. At least update the menu on ounce sizes so that customers can have a better understanding of what they are ordering. We left still hungry (and no buzz lol) after $76. Will not...
Read moreA family restaurant that packs a big punch. As an out of towner I am always looking for a gem but often times I come up short. That was not the case for The Mexican. A smaller, family owned restaurant, The Mexican delivers flavorful food and an overall great experience.
My wife and I ordered some chips and salsa and the fresh guacamole. That's when I knew I was in the right place. The guac wasn't anything overly complicated but the simplicity and freshness made it perfect. Paired with their home made chips I could have eaten my weight in chips, guac and salsa. Fortunately I didn't because my main entree choice was ramenbierria and it were out of this world! It was a cold rainy day and this dish just called out to me. I would have never thought to try this dish otherwise but I am a huge fan. The flavors of the meat and broth along with the fresh cilantro and onions was the perfect marriage of flavors.
My wife ordered the street tacos and could not stop dipping her tacos in my Bierria broth. She let me try it and what a mistake that was. We ordered another round of tacos and ate until we couldn't eat any more.
The service was really nice and super fast. We waited no time for everything we ordered however, it was really slow that day which helped alot.
We will...
Read moreThe most delicious, authentic, homemade Mexican food around. If you’re a cheap special #5 kinda person, it may not be for you. If you want fantastic options, terrific cocktails, everything made with care- homemade chips, salsas, bar syrups, birria, well-cooked and seasoned meats, aqua frescas, I could go on and on. Try the nachos (huge and delicious), huge burrito, substantial street tacos, plentiful carnitas, enchiladas were fantastic. We dug in with a pitcher of margaritas to celebrate spring break. I never leave without a to go box!! Can’t wait for their next event when they offer off-menu specials.
Ok, now let’s talk about the location. Fantastic outdoor seating in the sun or shade, outdoor bar, fire pit table, super comfortable and relaxed fun place. Inside is very cozy as well when outside is not a good option.
Now for the staff: super friendly, solicitous but not pesky, make great recommendations if your indecisive like me. Carla, if I remember correctly, is one of the managers who makes you feel so welcome and at home.
I look forward to my next visit every time and I live 40...
