Espresso Royale Cafe - Village Green — Restaurant in Champaign

I was super happy to find out this place has a $5 egg, cheese, avocado breakfast sandwich w/ veggie sausage since I am a vegetarian! Ive ordered the sandwich 3 times & I can honestly say that its the best breakfast sandwich (that I’ve had) in Champaign. But Every time I order I notice that the bill is high? I knew something didnt make sense so I checked my receipt & sure enough they are charging me $5.75 instead of $5? I gotta be honest, I feel a little cheated - Thats $2.25 extra that I’ve paid so far. I told the barista about it and he said that the prices went up. No apology, no here’s your .75 extra back. I knew something was funny because he keeps asking me if I want to add avocado 🥑? Am im always thinking, ?? But it comes w/ Avocado so im confused. Is it $5? Or $5.75? Because your board say $5 but you’ve been charging me $5.75 ... either get a new board or take down the old ones because there are 2; one at the door & one at the register & they both say $5 🤷🏻‍♂️ ... its not cool to expect to pay one price & then its $.75 more!? I went to espresso this morning around 8am to get an iced latte that I always order, I asked for a caramel latte and I modified it a little bit and the young blonde girl at the register was absolutely insufferable about that. She pushed to put vanilla in my latte and assumed what I wanted. I don’t drink vanilla and tried to explain that and she rolled her eyes and seemed to have some type of hissy fit, put my drink in incorrectly because she didn’t take the time to understand what I wanted. When I tried to correct her she got an insane attitude and snapped at me. It was so awkward and weird. She definitely did not want to be there. She seemed really overwhelmed and unable to handle the stress of the coffee shop which I understand completely so I just took the drink but I didn’t even drink it. Some of the other costumers waiting for the drinks and I just laughed it off but multiple other people in the lane felt uncomfortable with her attitude as well. She might be better making sandwiches in the back. Really bizarre, uncomfortable and disrespectful...

Nice and laid back environment. Great coffee and vegan zucchini bread, though the slices are much bigger at the location on campus. The staff are really friendly. The only aspect of this specific location that I don't like is that it's a little too noisy, making it a little harder when just a person just wants to read or study. One or two tables are almost always where some MLM soccer mom/corporate climber/youth minister has decided to hold court like it's a study room they checked out at the library. Monopolizing the aural atmosphere of our public spaces for personal gain is an arrogant practice. I would happily tip the servers extra if they asked people to step outside for conversations,...
