First, the food is AMAZING, fresh, and affordably priced. Hats off to back of the house.
I don't know what happened but service was not great the past two visits. My friend and I were there on a Friday night and it was pretty busy, so we figured it was just a busy night. I believe there were three or four servers on staff that night. This is my go-to sushi place in Chandler so I was very patient and respect the staff immensely. Until it got to the point where I felt it was necessary to ask for drinks. We then waited a while to put our order in. I tried to flag someone down for low sodium soy sauce but wasn't able to. So I had to pull low sodium soy sauce from the sushi bar. I don't think that we ever got the waters we asked for but that's small potatoes.
We were just there tonight and it wasn't busy at all. Service was equally poor. I understand everyone has stuff going on but we were waiting for our check and had noticed another lady had to go and ask for her check, so I stood up and waited to grab someone's attention. I stood for a while until I made eye contact with the lady and said hey, we need our check.
I don't mean to be fickle, and maybe we were there on off nights but the downgrade in service is enough for us to look for another...
Read moreI have been a regular here for some time but don't think I've ever written a review. I find this place to be some of the best sushi I've ever had, and that includes sushi I had while in Japan. Their smoked salmon is very flavorful and you get large pieces (forget the baloney-esque stuff you buy in stores). They had a chef come in from Japan for a time (or maybe he/she's still there) and soon after they started offered things like donburi bowls, different types of ramen and udon dishes (the nabeyaki udon is my favorite), and kara age. There are classic rolls and some Americanized ones (which are becoming quite popular in Japan, so don't be put off by "it must be authentic" snobbery in these reviews). The iced green tea is quite flavorful, and anyone's a winner who serves hot genmai tea in my book. This unassuming place has some of the best food. I highly recommend you try it.
If I had to make one suggestion, it would be to improve the tempura, particularly the shrimp. The shrimp tempura is closer to panko shrimp then the light, crispy batter that's on the other tempura dishes. Still, it is delicious and something I...
Read moreI walked into Mikado a with a friend of mine not to long ago and the first thing I noticed was how nice it all looked on the inside. The place has that seemingly friendly 'authentic' feel to it and the staff was great and just as inviting. The atmosphere alone in there was the most appealing. The one thing I also noticed that's a little different about this restaurant (than I'm used to at least) is their combo option in their menu. It's really not a bad idea, but b/c the portions were a little irregular I was still left hungry (10 dollars doesn't go far) and sushi during the happy hour or not, is over the top as far as pricing is concerned. Turns out 2 people can spend about 42 dollars fairly easy without much of an effort. Even the lunch menu is above sub-par in option, but below in quantity- pertaining to what you're getting. Although I will say sushi preparation and decoration is very well done. Their salads were awesome and the sushi is a hair above average in appeal and flavor compared to a few many others in Phx, but b/c of the price it makes it 100x easier to find this anywhere else for cheaper. All n'...
