We live in Austin, MN and had been driving to the Mason City location for years, just to eat there. Now we travel to and from Illinois on a regular basis and have been stopping to eat at the Charles City location. The food is AMAZING! The food and salsas are delicious! My go to is the Carne Asada y Mas (Grilled Steak and more). For the 'more' you can choose a chili relleno, chimichanga or enchilada. I ALWAYS get the chili relleno as there in different than the typical breaded and fried poblano pepper. It is a mild Anaheim pepper filled with cheees and rolled up in egg. SOOOOOO yummy! Another of our family favorites are the Taquitos Rancheros with the shredded beef. The beef is so moist and flavorful. They never disappoint! And the "Combinations" WOW they come on a plate the size of a medium pizza!😲 One of my families favorites is the #15 with a red sauce burrito, a cheese sauce smothered burrito a grilled chicken breast, rice and beans. Lastly, the pollo asado plate, which the same as the Carne Asada y Mas, but with grilled chicken instead of grilled steak. What's even better, is that they gill the meats on a FLAME grill! Do yourself a favor, and go explore their menu. Try something new,...
Read moreThe first resto I've eaten at in Charles City, it was 2 years ago and I won't forget that the experience was really good. I am not used to Mexican food but Plaza Mexico introduced and enticed me to try more and more.
I remember the lively color painted walls and the Mexican music. I liked it. I also liked the menu with pictures as I am not familiar with their food and the names. I remember that the waitress, that was nice, served chips with salsa and creamy cheese dip.
Shrimp is one of my favorites, so I ordered a meal with bacon wrapped shrimp. It was first for me and I find it the best that time. The plate was HUGE and I thought I would not be able to eat all the food. My eyes and stomach are big so I was able to finish all my food.
My husband and I are already into...
Read moreStopped by for a quick lunch while in town for an appointment. We were only served one of the two lunch specials we ordered and then when the other one was wrong. Didn't send it back as we didn't have time to wait and I was hungry. Wish I would have as the chimichanga I got was awful; was a dry, deep fried to death tortilla with maybe a teaspoon of meat and no sauce or flavor. Beans and salsa were watery and flavorless. Rice was as dry as the chimichanga. First basket of chips were great - hot and crispy but the second were stale and hard. I left 95% on my plate and was never asked if there ware any concerns. Also, while dining they were vacuuming the restuarant with 3 other tables and it wasn't even 1:30; very annoying. Will not be returing...
