I get that there is currently a dire shortage of waitstaff and other employees in restaurants. We went early Monday evening (5:00 p.m.) and sat at a table inside. There were about 10 people at the bar and maybe one or two other tables inside with customers. (So it was not busy.) I asked the server if they had a happy hour. He looked at the clock (I suppose confirming it was after 5:00 p.m.) and then responded, "Yes." Um...ok. So we had to ask the follow-up question of what they were. The server went to the bar and returned stating the house liquors were on happy hour. I then asked him if they had any beer with happy hour prices. He didn't know, and said the bartender just told him they had house liquors for happy hour. He did not offer to inquire further, so I ended up going to the bar to ask the bartender myself. She replied that domestic beers were on happy hour. Okaaayyy. Are they draft? bottles? cans? And what BRANDS do you have? Are they 10 cents off of the regular price, or $3, or what? I work hard for my money and don't want to spend $7-$8 on a beer I like when another one that I also like is $3. It's not that hard. Know what your happy hour specials are - and tell the customer. They have a list of their craft beers at the table (which I appreciate) - but absolutely no mention of what domestic beers they serve, and no mention of daily specials or happy hour. I gave up and did not inquire further about possible appetizer or food specials for that evening.
The food we ordered was meh. As confirmed in prior reviews, the burgers were overdone and dry. The onions (along with some onion skins) on the patty melt were way underdone, and the fish in the fish and chips was greasy without much taste. The french fries were good. I would recommend spending your hard-earned money elsewhere.
This is our fourth time trying Stones Throw Tavern. It is...
Read moreThe service ranked in the top 2 of the all time worst service I have ever had. We arrived there May7 just before sunset. The music was blasting so loud that we decided to sit outside. We waited for a server for a while and finally went inside and asked for a server. Another wait and finally someone took our drink order. Took a while to get drinks. When we finally got drinks we decided it best to order food then. The food order was simple burgers and fries. After another long wait a server came out and said their kitchen was "backed up". When the food finally came the burgers were very good, even with cold french fries. No follow up from the server, so we had to almost die of thirst while eating. Then no one showed up for a LONG TIME. We wanted our check so I walked inside. I told our server I needed our check. I waited and waited at the bar and he never came up there. So I asked the bartender if I could talk to the manager. She said there was not one their at the time. I said "OK, I am getting ready to walk off without paying." She said please don't and came up with our bill. We were two couples and the bill was about $65 I paid and left ZERO tip. I normally tip 20%+ but we had NO SERVICE!!! I will not go back there even with the good food and the fact that we live close. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. Joe Brewer, Charleston SC If you can't serve people outside, CLOSE...
Read moreWe had our orders placed at 6:17pm (specific to the time that was on the ticket). After about 30 minutes the bartender comes up apologizes for taking so long. After a while we started watching the time because we needed to go soon. By the time its 7pm I flagged a guy down and showed him the ticket with the time stamp and asked where is our food. The excuse was the kitchen was backed up and running slow. The issue was people who came in after us got their food and were either done or almost finished. I'm not going to totally diss on the place because they put our food in to go boxes and didn't charge us. I hate to say it but when we got home and saw the food, the first impression was sad. The chicken sandwich I ordered was dry and the bread was burned (see pic for reference). I think my chicken was actually a chicken strip that came from my husband's order was the chicken strip appetizer. The portion of fries was also sad. Let's just say if I did have to pay for the food it would have been a disappointing $15.00 spent. Speaking of the chicken strips, those things made me giggle. I think I have seen the same type of chicken strips at the frozen section at Walmart. It was like looking at a child's plate without the broccoli side. Otherwise, I guess the place is okay for the music and the atmosphere if your into sports. And the staff is...
