I moved here recently and had been used to a great local store that carried every beer I could ever want. After coming to Charlotte, I had been struggling to find a beer store like the one I had left. Yesterday after work my boyfriend and I decided to stop by Brawleys. I am truly impressed. It is a smallish store that doesn't look like it contains much when you first walk in, but the more you look the more you see that they have nearly everything. I'm still not sure how the beer was grouped or organized, so maybe if you're not a regular or don't have time to look around you should wait to go there, but you should still definitely go. They had IPAs and a huge selection of Belgian beers as well as German hefeweisens and everything else! The man that was there working, possibly the owner, was very friendly and helpful the entire time I was there, he even suggested a beer store closer to where I live. For some time I have been looking for one particular beer and I couldn't find it anywhere. I just happened to mention it while checking out and he immediately said they had it and went to pull a 6 pack out of a case for me. It's a good 40 minutes from where I live, but I will definitely make the effort to...
Read moreI'm the type of girl that LOVES beer! Guinness style, deep, dark, flavorful beer. And then 3 weeks ago, I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease and have been searching for gluten free options besides cider! While searching for a location to buy a specific Dogfish beer, I found Brawley's. BIG. SIGH. OF. RELEIF.
The owner showed me the shelves (no, not shelf, SHELVES) of their gluten free beer options. And this wasn't even including cider or the dreaded Redbridge. Not only did they carry the multiple brands I have looked up, but they also carried bands that I had never heard of and am so excited to try. Then he asked if I had considered Mead... really hadn't thought about it, but it was a GREAT suggestion. He showed me the selection and suggested a few that were worth trying.
So very helpful. So very friendly. And while I went in intending to buy one type of Gluten Free Beer, I left with a few. In addition, he did not carry a Pumpkin Cider I had read about and is contacting his Harpoon Distributer to see what he can get on hand.
As long as I am in Charlotte, this will be where I buy my Gluten Free Beer... and...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I recently moved to the Charlotte area from Greensboro. Back home there is a great, local beer shop called Bestway. She and I were looking to fill the void near our new home. I couldn't be happier that we stopped in at Brawley's! Mike was incredibly friendly and I felt completely comfortable asking questions about the brews. The shop is cool and dark, giving nice respite from the hot sun on a summer day.
The selection of Trappist beers impressed me the most. It's hard to find a beverage shop that goes past a couple of bottles of Chimay and calls it a "Belgian" department. My girlfriend was looking for a very particular brand of beer that was not displayed on the floor and Mike found it for her. We told Mike that we lived in Concord and he went so far as to recommend a competitor's store closer to where we live. We couldn't be happier with our visit and will absolutely come back again. We even learned that the store is having six taps put in, so we can look forward to that...
