La preferida — Restaurant in Charlotte

I have only gone on Thursdays to get their tacos for $1.50 because it’s hard to find tacos for that price in Charlotte, but I refuse to continue going anymore. I’ve been to this restaurant eight times over the course of six months, so this is not a one time experience. Each time I’ve gone in there. There are 4 to 6 waitresses huddled around the front desk. And most of them ignore me or flat out refused to say any greetings. There is one young woman who handles the foods being served up by the cooks. She has typically been very nice and cordial towards me and she typically takes my order. The others refused to make eye contact with me or say anything to me unless they absolutely have to, because the other girl is super busy serving foods to the customers dining in.

There is an older waitress in particular has a very rude demeanor. She’s very standoffish and acts as if doing her job is an inconvenience. I asked her for a menu so that I could see what else they had available to purchase, and she almost made a look of disgust. However, she quickly fixed herself and gave me the menu. As I said earlier, I’ve been here a total of eight times so this is not a singular experience being blown out of proportion. I know that colorism and racism is real among older generations of Latinos, and I honestly feel like that’s what it was, because I compared my interaction with the staff to Latino customers who came in and it was night and day. First let me start by saying the food was really good. But that's the only good thing. The waitress was the worst I've ever had. My boyfriend and I were about to order but I needed another minute to decide. So he told her what he wanted and I said just 1 min. She said ok I'll be right back. She didn't come back for 10 minutes and then 5 min later to our surprise his food comes out. She left and I called her over and asked about why she put his order in and I don't have my food. She says oh well yours will be out very quick. 15 mins later I finally got my food. And she left and she never came back to our table. I had to go to the manager and ask for a box and a drink. I came to this place on a recommendation from a friend, so I was expecting something good, but unfortunately, this place didn't quite meet my expectations. The tacos were not very flavorful. The tortillas didn't have that wonderful home-made flavor that I was hoping for. As for the meat, it wasn't nearly as juicy as it should have been. Even the toppings on the taco lacked flavor and freshness.

I ordered a torta, a type of Mexican sandwich. I've had some mind-blowingly good tortas before and this one didn't come close to those, but it wasn't bad. I would have liked the bread to be crispier and more flavorful, but that's just a personal preference.
