This place is so wonderful. The food comes in nicely sized portions and is very affordable (almost a steal when considering how much flavor is in each dish!!) You’ll need to know a bit of Spanish to read the menu since this is a very authentic restaurant and the employees don’t speak/understand very much but there are always local customers willing to help translate. Having a smart phone helps to figure out what to order. I spent 6 years studying Spanish but haven’t practiced in awhile so was mostly able to figure out what to order. We ordered the sopa (soup) which had a light flavorful broth full of broccoli, other veggies, a plantain, and delicious/tender/fall off the bone meat (spare ribs?). It was a massive bowl and two of us filled up on just the one bowl. We had to order the rest of our food to go and enjoyed it along our road trip to Florida. We got tacos, a steak torta, and a pupusa. One of the dishes came with some nice salsa/slaw and we put that on the pupusa for extra texture. They are very hardworking people who are very humble. We tried to leave a big tip but they kept giving it back to us thinking we were mistakenly overpaying due to translation. Eventually we were able to finally convince them we knew what we were giving them and they looked so surprised by the tip. This place is such a gem and you should try to go regularly/frequently for us since we’re from out of town. Anytime we’re back in the Charlotte area, we’ll be sure to stop in and order...
Read moreThe food is okay, but the service is lacking.
Today, I went in and bought two plates of food. In the past, tortillas were included, but today the cashier said they were extra. Before leaving, I went to use the bathroom with my three little kids. They used the toilet, and when I tried to flush, I realized it wasn’t working. As I was stepping out, the cashier was already by the bathroom door and asked me if it was locked when I went in. I said no, it was unlocked.
She then told me the bathroom is supposed to be locked because it’s broken. I mentioned that I just noticed it wasn’t flushing. She entered the bathroom and seemed upset, telling me “I was going to get her in trouble because I used it, and now it was stuck.” I asked her how I could possibly get her in trouble when I didn’t know it wasn’t working—there was no sign on the door or inside, and it was unlocked.
I didn’t appreciate her attitude. She was treating me and my kids like we had done something wrong and that it was our fault she was going to get in trouble. I was considering giving her my phone number to pass along to the owner to discuss the situation, but after her behavior, I decided against it. She acted like I hadn’t just spent $40+ on two plates of food and wasn’t a long-time customer.
I wouldn’t recommend this place or using the bathroom at this place unless you check first if it’s working. Even if the door is unlocked, it may not be functioning properly.
Read moreWe dined in family of 4 and were overcharged the pricing was nowhere to be found to confirm what we were charged. The lady behind the counter told us we had not paid a portion of our food, when asked to go through pricing they stated we had been given they listed food we never got (they never addressed this issue when we calculated) When we calculated the food I asked her to show me the total and she never complied after we had finished calculating she conveniently added more calculations into the calculator to give a total just shy of our original total. We paid the remaining balance and left. The pupusas we were served were nothing like the pictures in other reviews it was essentially a glob of masa and other ingredients. Excessive oil and definitely undercooked. Which was a bummer since we love them so much. There is little to no “service” The restaurant is essentially self serve and...
