Sushi Queen Sushi and Grill — Restaurant in Charlotte

I've eaten here a few times and have never had an issue, but the service tonight was so unbearably bad that I felt compelled to leave a review. We went during the evening, and it wasn't terribly busy inside, maybe 5 other tables seated. The waitress seated us, handed us menus, and asked us if we needed a minute. We said yes, she said no problem, and then we waited. And waited. And waited. 20 minutes later, no one had come back to so much as check on us. I had to speak to another employee, who was working the register, just to get someone to come back over and take our order. The food came out a bit later, not super fast, but not slow enough that it was an issue. The food was good. Unfortunately, all the waiting meant that the glasses of water we were given at the beginning (nearly an hour ago at this point) were empty, and we had not received one refill. About half way through the meal, I asked our waitress for a refill. She disappeared for 10 more minutes as our glasses sat empty. I ended up having to again approach the register, just to get my very first refill on water, well into the meal and our time there. We finished our meal, and waited while we were ignored again. I flagged down the waitress for what was now a third time, and requested the check. 10 minutes later... No check. We again, went to the register and just got in line to pay with the carry-out orders since it seemed quicker at this point. When we got to our turn and she pulled up our ticket, we asked that a coupon we had for the restaurant from a subscription service be applied. Surprise surprise, while we were told it was applied, when reviewing our receipt in the car, it wasn't. It didn't feel worth the 6 dollar coupon value to go back in and make an entirely frustrating experience any longer. In fact, I would have paid a lot more money to get my night back so I could spend it in another place of business that didn't ignore me for an hour and a half despite multiple indications of service lacking...

We have been coming here for years off and on. We were very disappointed with the non service that Katlin the waitress gave us and how she was so rude and disrespectful to my mother. We were there before four other guest came and we never received our drinks appetizers or anything. We inquired with the other attendees about the whereabouts of Katlin and was told she would be out. The other tables were given water and appetizers and we still had not gotten any of our orders or even water. My mom went to the prep counter to the counter to inquire about the orders at that time she saw Katlin coming out with a tray of drinks soups and salads for our table. So my mom went back to her seat to sit down. We noticed that Katlin had served the guest that came after us first and my mom asked her when she came to our table why she served them before us. Katlin immediately displayed an attitude towards my mom and started placing the drinks soup and salads on the table. My mom asked her again and she ignored my mom and gave an attitude gesture to my mom. My mother told her we didn't want her to be our waitress and she says I don't care I don't want to serve you anyway. She said that my mom was being rude. My mom got up and went to seek the manager. The manager came to our table and we explained the situation to her. The manager only apologized to us and said she would switch waitresses. Then she went over to Katlin and had a discussion with her. Katlin appeared to be insubordinate to her manager. The guest at another table apologized to us and said that she was rude and wrong for the way she acted towards us. Unfortunately we will not ever go back to that restaurant because of bad waitress service and for a manager that did not know how to treat her customers or reprimand her employee. The manager didn't even comp any of our orders. We spent over $150....

The restaurant itself was very pleasant and nicely decorated. The orange dragon cocktail on special for $5 was very yummy and had a decent amount of booze in it. We ordered 5 rolls of sushi, and I was less than thrilled with the way they tasted. I'm not a huge fan of 'fusion' sushi, but I have occasionally tasted some nice unexpected combinations.... the ones we choose were only 'ok'. IMHO scallions, tajin, hot sauce, and truffle oil are not ingredients that I expect on my sushi... and frankly some of the flavors were downright overwhelming (I could not get over the salmon sashimi slathered in truffle oil). The 'spicy tuna' was so spicy that my lips were actually burning lol... never had that happen before. I mean, the roll tasted good.... but holy cow, that was like hot wings spicy. I didn't expect the 'spicy' rolls to be so spicy that they would knock my socks off, so we ordered 4 of them with some kind of 'spicy tuna/salmon' on them and there was pretty much nothing to eat that wasn't on fire 😅 In the end, the server was excellent and really upheld the integrity of the restaurant by ensuring that we were satisfied. I will give them stars for customer service and creativity, although it's just not what I look for when I'm trying...
