Small but mighty.
First time visiting today, because on weekends in the summer there was just no way, too tiny and too many people would have triggered anxiety for me. But on a crisp fall Friday morning with nothing but sun sparkling on the nearby canal? Bliss.
Quaint, with a few seating options indoors and outdoors. Very friendly people behind the counter, and the place was clean and adorable without trying too hard to be hipster. A place both the young and old would enjoy equally (in fact there were both when I visited).
A pretty extensive coffee/drink menu, some amazing looking desserts (cannoli, chocolate torte, snickers pie), and they offer breakfast sandwiches too.
Let's talk about breakfast sandwiches for a moment. Indulge my little rant here, but egg, cheese, and meat on a bread option should not be rocket science, people. It's so basic it's the first thing my daughter learned to cook for herself at age 7. So why is it that most places mess it up? Frozen egg product patties, or something poured out of a carton, flimsy half-cooked bacon... these are blasphemous, straight up.
Cafe on the Bay... the best breakfast sandwich I have ever ordered in my life. No joke, this is not hyperbole. I went on a 7-point discourse about why it was the best to my poor husband who just wanted to enjoy his coffee and dessert. Crispy bacon, real egg with no "snot" but still the tiniest bit of wet yolk (perfection), and an English muffin buttered and toasted perfectly. Again, I shouldn't have to be so pleasantly surprised at a simple sandwich but the failings of others only cements this one's obvious superiority.
TLDR: great place, good food, lots of drink options. You should...
Read moreThis shop has, in my opinion, the best coffee in the county. I'm a black coffee (hot or iced) or at my most complex a red-eye guy, while my wife gets the more complicated drinks; either way, we both love it - and so do our daughters for hot chocolates or sometimes a small latte. It's about 15 minutes from my house, and we pass several spots heading down 213 to get to Cafe on the Bay. Add to that, they have nice baked goods and their food is excellent. I usually get something simple, like sausage, egg, and cheese on pretzel roll, but my wife enjoys the vegetarian options. They also have pretty solid cheesesteaks for lunch. As others have said, it's a nice place to sit and have a chat, and then take a little lap around town while you sip. The service is always fast and the woman who owns it takes the time to know the folks who come in while still...
Read moreGm, I maybe giving my opinion about this place from my first time experience. First I love the water, the boats small towns atmospheres. Along with really good food as well as good customers service. The shops along this street were so inviting, I come from a retail customer service background. Would definitely go back. A great day get away, a good place to clear your head, we went on a Saturday. The line was out the however the people didn't seem to have a problem waiting. The cafe is small inside some seating space, people were getting their orders and leaving. The line did move quickly. Some...
