Chen's Garden Restaurant — Restaurant in Chesapeake

My wife loves fried crabs and we have tried them at many places but Chen's Garden is absolutely the best place we have discovered for fried crabs. They are very consistent and put out delicious fried crabs with a nice thick breading every time. Besides being delicious the crabs are also reasonably priced.

Chen's is your typical Chinese takeout restaurant located in Liberty Plaza shopping center in SoNo. There is no dining room so this is strictly a takeout restaurant. Besides the typical Chinese menu items there a few American food items as well (chicken wings, french fries, onion rings, fried fish, chicken gizzards, beef liver, etc...) They also have fresh fish made to order. Everything I've tried has been fresh hot and delicious but what separates Chen's from other Chinese takeout restaurants is their awesome fried crabs.

Chen's Garden is a popular spot in the neighborhood so they can get pretty busy at times. The common parking lot shared with the other businesses in the shopping center is not very big and can get pretty crowded at times but I've always been able the find a spot to park.

Ordered from them last night (9/10/2025). Ordered the sausage and rice for my nephew, an order of chicken teriyaki and 2 crab rolls. Now first off, the chicken teriyaki here is always good in my opinion. You get 4 skewers and the price is about $7 bucks. HOWEVER… my nephew said his sausage and rice, which cost about $7 dollars as well, didn’t have gravy. Usually dishes like this come with gravy but we didn’t ask, so that’s on us. These crab rolls however, I JUST CANNOT. They are small like spring rolls but cost $2.65 each. Like what!!? They have a little bit of crab in them and some vegetables but for TWO DOLLARS AND SIXTY-FIVE CENT each (before tax), is highly unacceptable. I expected at least a regular egg roll size roll with the crab meat spread out but no. Never again. That just threw me off. I definitely will not ever get those again....

$16.00 for a Larger General Tao chicken w fried rice! On the menu the special is $8.75. And regular w white rice $11.50. Why I get charged $4.00 extra dollars for fried rice is crazy. Then once I pointed it out I got told I got charged $2.00 for fried rice. Crazy. This just for my ppl to be aware of how the lady w the glasses be trying to get over.
