McGrath's Burger Shack is located on Battlefield Blvd. in the Millwood Plaza Shopping Center. I don't come out to this part of Chesapeake very often, so I figured I'd give this place a shot. My visit here was on June 2, 2020. When my mom and I were here, the state was still under phase 2 of Covid-19 restrictions, so all in person dining had to be outdoors. It was a nice weather day too, so it wasn't much of an issue. They have an outdoor patio seating area. After getting here, it wasn't busy at the time. We went inside for a moment to see if someone was in there, and there were some contractors working on remodeling the interior of the restaurant. There was someone in there and said we could just pick a table on the patio as it was empty at the time. A few moments later, our server Davis came to the table with menus and asked if we wanted something to drink. One thing I will note is that he didn't wear a mask at all during the entire visit. A few moments later he came back with the drinks and asked if we were ready to order. It would take a few moments more to decide, but when he came back after that, we were ready to order. We both ended up going with the Irish Whiskey Burger, but for mine, I also added lettuce and tomato to it. After about ten minutes or so, our burgers and fries came to the table. The burgers looked really good and juicy. The top of the bun even has McGrath's Burger Shack on it. After digging into the burger, it was great. It was cooked as requested and hot. There was good flavor to it as well. The fries were also good and seasoned well. Closer to finishing up, he came back with the check. Once we finished, we were ready to pay, but our server hadn't come back in a while. After waiting a while, we ended up going inside and ended up paying there instead. Overall, the experience here overall was great. The food especially was great and that's an important part for sure. There were a few flaws in the service as noted above, but that happens. If you're in the area looking for a good burger place, I totally recommend trying this place out.

Hole in the wall burger spot with all the character you would expect from a local owned restaurant. Was impressed by the photos on other reviews and they didn't disappoint. Wife and I went with the Candied Bacon for the appetizers and was definitely impressed. Immediately thought "This is way better than First Watch Bacon." LOL. Followed that with the Irish Car Bomb, medium well, and *chef kiss* I knew I was tearing it up cause the cook jokingly asked "Is it good?!?" Beyond good. Thankful that it's less than a 5 min drive from work. Menu offers a decent amount of options from burgers, hotdogs, chicken sandwiches, and wings. Going to come back and give them all a try. Drinks on tap and bottled beverages. Definitely a surprise. They even give samples before you commit to a whole glass. Service was prompt, attentive, and personable. Plenty of seats for the square footage, 2 good size TVs, and music was pretty good. Parking was easy to navigate and it wasn't crowed. We came around 7pm and stayed until closing time. Will definitely be coming back.

Not the best dive bar experience I have ever had. Host was eating at front bar booth when I walked in, no greeting. I ordered a “to-go” order. Ordering was awkward as it was directly over the host’s half eaten plate of food. While I waited, from what I could tell the three owners/managers hovered over a laptop near the front door. Very unprofessional feel to it. The interior was “redone” from the previous establishment, but not enough was done to distinguish McGrath’s from the previous occupants. Despite the above annoyances, I usually give places the benefit of the doubt letting their food do most the talking. The food however was a let down. The chicken burgers were nothing special. The quality was less than you’d get at your third cousin’s back yard grill and bbq. The steak fries were soggy. I hate throwing away food so I ate my mistake. However, the chicken wings were just nasty. Those couldn’t be choked down.

We had 2 Irish hamburgers with fries an appetizer and 2 adult beverages. Out the door our bill with tip was just over $70. It's a small place that is very inviting and set up well. It was a Saturday night around dinner time when we came in. There were 3 other tables there that had people at them. Once we sat down it seemed like the gates opened up and before you knew it the only seat or two left were at the bar! Here's the issue, the restaurant was not prepared for this. I'm not sure if someone called out to leave them short staffed but there were only 3 employees there. The young man working the bar and restaurant tables and 2 kitchen staff. For the next hour we watched this young man and two guys in the kitchen work their butts off and one of them was kind enough to come out of the very busy kitchen and help deliver food as well. Either way an additional person would have made the whole experience more pleasant for everyone. The app we had was the Irish egg rolls and the first try was not good. They came out over cooked and tasted burnt. It took a few minutes for the waiter to come back to our table because they had gotten so busy and when he did we sent them back. Shortly after that our burgers were done and we started to eat. The burgers were absolutely amazing! Full of flavor and perfectly juicy! About 3/4 of the way through our burgers the young man comes back and asked if we were ok and asked if we wanted our appetizers to go since they weren't ready yet. About 30 seconds later they were ready so we asked to have them now. They too were extremely good! So I'm not sure if we hit the place on a bad night or it's always like this. I would hope that they would normally have at least two people working the floor. This would have changed almost everything about our first experience here. We will go back because like I said the food was absolutely delicious, the atmosphere was great and the staff although they were maxed out seemed to do the best they could. Hopefully the next visit will be everything...

McGrath's Burger Shack is Great Bridge's newest obsession. I love burgers and I love food that is instagrammable, and with huge juicy burgers being served up on top of newspaper complete with a cute little branded bun with the restaurant's logo on top, who could resist?

I came in on a Wednesday night, and the whole place was packed, which is a good sign; furthermore, each and every spot was almost filled, but luckily I grabbed a spot at the bar, where my man's Davis took care of me. After looking over the menu I decided on ordering an Irish Burger infused with Guinness, as I've never had one before, and a side of steak fries with ranch. The Burger was cooked perfectly; nice and juicy and the cook even put a cup of Jameson BBQ sauce on the side that really set off the flavor of the Guinness infused meat. Whew! It was an experience, the fries weren't half bad either.

I did enjoy my meal; however, due to the place being packed and there only being a small amount of staff, the wait for food was a bit longer than I would've liked. The cooks and Davis were handling everybody's needs quite nicely, just in my opinion more staff would have had this place running a lot smoother. Overall, everything was fabulous and I'm hoping for great things with McGrath's. If you're in the Hampton Roads area...
