My family decided to visit Caribbean Deck Cafe while we were vacationing in the Poconos. From the moment we walked in, Shaine treated us like family! He allowed us to taste test a few dishes and we enjoyed talking to him about all kinds of things. As for the food itself, it felt like we were at Shaine's backyard barbeque! He kept piling it on and the portions were huge! We tried the curry goat (my favorite, though everything could arguably be considered a favorite!), the oxtail, stew chicken, and jerk chicken - each dish was full of flavor, hot/fresh, and oh so satisfying! The curry goat was seasoned to perfection, the oxtail was meaty and tasty, the stew chicken meat was fall-off-the-bone (see photo), and the spicy homemade jerk sauce was out of this world! Anytime we go to the Poconos, we plan on being back here for sure. The sides consisted of plantains and cabbage, and both paired very well with each meal. Rice options are rice and peas or white rice (rice was delicious). We dined in and appreciated the large plates and overall attentive experience. After our meal, Shaine hooked us up with sweet potato pudding and Hennessy cake on the house! And I must say: Both hit the spot! The sweet potato pudding was like a slice of sweet potato pie with pudding consistency - it was hot and sweet, and it was exactly what I needed after the amazing meal. Hennessy cake gave me rum cake vibes (note: I don't drink alcohol and am far from a connoisseur) and it was also great! We want to thank Shaine for really going above and beyond to take care of our family. The Poconos community is blessed to have him and Caribbean Deck Cafe! Every 5-Star Review is well-earned/well-deserved, and you will NOT regret visiting. Very highly...
Read moreWe love the flavors of Jamaica, and the dishes we have tried at the Caribbean Deck Cafe are the best we've had since leaving Negril. Jerk chicken and Brown Stew chicken are two of our favorites when we're on vacation in Jamaica, so we tried Shane's on our first visit. Delicious! Just as juicy, tender, and tasty as our favorite spots near Negril. The Brown Stew is savory and mouth-watering, the Jerk has just the right amount of spice. And the aromas...it was torture to drive home with the exotic fragrances wafting out of that package. A quick note about rice and peas, a major staple in Jamaica; I don't usually order it because, with few exceptions, it's pretty tasteless. Shane's, however, is just as savory and flavorful as the rest of his dishes. I love his rice and peas as much as his jerk and brown stew chicken! We also tasted his pink lemonade--very refreshing on a hot day--and brought home some of his homemade (no sugar added) fruit punch. Which makes great rum punch, the perfect accompaniment to a Jamaican dinner. Just add rum! (Aside from tasting wonderful, even the fruit punch has a lovely fragrance. When I first tasted it I had to stop for a moment and just enjoy the "bouquet.") Overall, this is the best-smelling place we ever ate. My husband and I work part time at Pocono Raceway, and the Caribbean Deck Cafe is only 15 minutes down Rt 115, near Effort. It's so easy to place an order online, pop down to the CDC, and either eat there or pick up your food to take out. Next time I think we'll try the curry. Or the goat. Or maybe the oxtail. Patties...
Read moreOrdered @ 4:45, they close at 7. Was told they were "out of food" and my order was cancelled.
Edit: Owner tried to call me out for leaving him a one star review. I had to block him. Look at his response, would you want to order food from a place that publicly posts your phone number and email address for leaving a negative review? Think very carefully before ordering food from this toxic owner.
Edit 2: I think you just need to look at the owner's response to understand what's happening here. I attempted to order food 2 hours and 15 minutes before their scheduled end of business.
The owner is upset because I gave a one star review. By their own response, they admit to running out of food on more than one occasion. I think that if you would like to order food from here, you must call ahead to ensure there is actually food in stock. Past reviews have led me to believe when it is in stock, it's quite tasty. I wish the owner no ill will, but I will be contacting google as the owner posted my email address and phone number in retaliation for giving him a one star review.
Please try to accept legitimate criticism. With over 200 positive reviews, take the time to reflect on your failures and improve so that your business can become stronger. I wish the owner the best, I'm sure they are having a bad day seeing as they ran...
