My husband and I split two entrees for breakfast this morning. We love supporting local and love the restaurants that are part of the Javi’s (Tacos) family! We have some pros and cons to share our take from this morning. Things we loved: the menu is full of variety, staff is kind and helpful, wait was only 15-20 mins despite it being packed on a busy Sunday morning. We got the Chorizo Skillet and the Churro Pancakes. The flavor in both the chorizo and the special churro pancake batter were great! We both thought the Chorizo Skillet was by far the better of the two dishes and will be ordering that again when we return. Things that could be even better: the toppings on the Churro Pancakes were sparse and left them pretty dry. We added syrup of course but we were hoping for more of the caramel, cinnamon sugar, and whipped crème to make them stand out as a real differentiator from the regular pancakes. The portion size of the Churro Pancakes also seemed a bit small for the price (although we get inflation is a thing). That being said, we enjoyed our experience this morning and will be going back! We love supporting local and are grateful to have a breakfast/brunch spot in this part of town that we can count on for quality food. Go out and show them your support!

Upon coming in it was smaller than I expected. I waited a couple minutes to be greated, but was seated immediately. The environment is festve and comfortable. It was pretty clean considering it was during the Sunday brunch rush. I had La Toxica skillet with the Churro pancakes. La Toxica skillet starts with crispy and well cooked hashbrowns, sautéed onions, peppers, jalapeños, and chorizo. It's topped off with pepper jack cheese, two eggs of your choice (over easy for me) and a delicious warm tamitillo salsa. It was supposed to come with a slice of cojita cheese but I subbed it out for queso blanco. They didn't skimp on the jalapeños which spice fans will embrace. It was presented on an iron skillet. The pancakes were amazing. Eating these will quickly lead to type 2 diabetes, so be careful. They were sweet and cinnamony which was a pleasant contrast to the toasty pure taste of the pancakes. This I loved because these cakes could easily served with savory foods.

Time to Rise and Shine at Elkhorn (breakfast): Great food, reasonable prices and easy to pay with QR code that is printed on your receipt, once scanned it takes you to TOAST Mobile Pay System. No credit card or hidden fees. The Big Bacon Skillet add sausage, it comes with your choice of toast, tortilla, or pancakes, obviously picked the latter. Southern Omelet with the country gravy on the side, same carb choices; sourdough toast for the win. So much food that we were only able to eat a little more than half of the main dishes, I was so stuffed I could only have 3 bites of the pancakes. Everything was delish and in my opinion the best breakfast I have had since moving here, granted I have only been to Jimmy's Egg, Vidlak's, Good Evans, and Summer Kitchen Cafe. The restaurant is small and as such seating is limited. Was clean and the service was good. — at Time to Rise and Shine Elkhorn.

Nope. Just nope. Our experience was lackluster. My first time visit was unforgettable. We were seated and drinks were brought quickly. Ordered a burger and country omelet. I asked for gravy on the side and fries on the side instead the hash browns inside. Was told no problem. When the omelet arrived, it had hashbrowns. I waited for the waitress to come back to my table and no one ever did, the entire visit. I went to the counter to let them know. As I explained to the waitress the mistake, she turned to another staff member and showed her the order on her machine as if I put it wrong. I explained that as I diabetic I try to limit my food intake, hence the fries only and not both fries and hashbrowns. The agreed to redo the omelet. I waited and waited. The other person in my party had finished the whole meal before I got my redo. The restaurant was not overly busy. I ended up taking it to go. We waited for our check it never came. So I went to the counter to pay. I was given the wrong check. I corrected her and she then asked what table number I was at. I had no idea as I don't work there! Finally got the right check, and the fries were added as side. I corrected her and she then stated that there are no substitutions. Had this been mentioned table side there would have never been an issue with the order to begin with. We never received drink refills. But on the plus side they gave me a giant cinnamon roll in compensation, after I told them I'm diabetic. Bathrooms are clean. Food is tasty, but not anything overly special, 42 dollars for 2 meals is too much for this location...

I really wanted to love this place because of how cute the inside of the restaurant was but unfortunately the food and service left the experience lacking. My son and I went out to grab a late breakfast this afternoon. Upon arriving we sat for awhile until the server eventually came over and took our drink and food order. We then waited a while longer for our food to arrive before our drinks. When asked if we needed anything else by the server I let her know we still had not received our drinks which she promptly went to grab. The server left the bill at the end of the table upon bringing our food so it gave the impression that she was not going to be back, which is exactly what happened.

As for the food, my son ordered the farmer's biscuit meal with a side cinnamon roll and I ordered the chicken fried steak and eggs. Both meals were bland with hash browns heavy with oil and not even a little bit crispy. Like I had feared the server did not come back to our table for drink refills or to check on us. It wasn't until I put my card at the end of the table that she popped up to collect payment. I think the most disappointing thing is there were only two other tables occupied when we walked in. There was no rush or packed house that could explain the poor food quality and service we received. Unfortunately for my family this restaurant is going into the tried it once and wont...
