Came here on a whim after a long afternoon of tubing, and it was not too bad.
All the meat was really well cooked and soft and tender. I got the smoked turkey sandwich with the bun and no tomato. The turkey was really soft and just simply seasoned. Neither salty nor bland even by itself. It went perfectly with that dressing that they had on there. I have no idea what it was, but the combination of it all in the sandwich was really good.
My fiance got the big meat special with the smoked pulled chicken. It was a very loaded burger and the grilled onions went well there. He added the spicy barbecue sauce - that sauce actually was a good blend of sweet and spicy and the hint of mango actually came through!
My brother actually got two burgers, and finished and liked them both. He got fries for the side.
Fiance and I both got side salads and also a big order of a main salad. Italian dressing was good for the salad but overall the salad itself was very plain. Iceberg lettuce, cucumbers and croutons - ready subpar for the cost. I was hoping they would at least have romaine. They also didn't have any vegetable items on the menu at all, so there was no option to add any vegetable to the salad. Dropped a star for that.
People also not at all happy with the service. Server kept rushing us to make a decision and order, and didn't even let us finish our entire order. Kept prompting and asking if we were done, and warning is that this would be too much food. (4 burgers with sides and 2 big salads for 3 people) We actually finished...
Read moreWe’ve driven by this place many times, each time commenting on the signage, barbecue, ribs and so forth. Today we finally gave it a try. We started our adventure by scoring a parking spot right by the door! (One of us has a limited number of steps that can be taken before sitting is required.) upon entering, the visual ambience is immediately eye-catching. Taxidermy is plentiful! We chose a table close to the door, allowing for our dinner friends to see us easily. There was a post right at the corner of the table, which I chose to call Malone. We were greeted quickly by a couple of very young people, who were choosing to spend part of their vacation helping in the restaurant. Very nice. They got our water, asked about drinks and brought us menus. We had all four been there a while before someone asked whether or not we were ready to order. (I think the visiting help was maybe taking some of the routine out of the service.) we placed our orders and after a bit of a wait, not a long wait, our food was delivered by multiple employees, all at the same time. I thought the food was pretty good, as did the rest of our party. My brisket was ranging from tender to tough, and the chicken was kind of dry. I had coleslaw that was good, Bama Beans, which were good and corn pie. All in all, it was a...
Read moreMy family and I had a brief lunch here while on our way through town; we were just out and about exploring Western Omaha on a snowy January day, and were debating fast food when we saw a sign for this corner restaurant in the old downtown of the village of Elkhorn. And, we found a corner-of-the-prairie experience we will pleasantly remember. Excellent BBQ sandwiches with creamy coleslaw and beans--and the establishment's regionally famous whiskey-flavor BBQ sauce, satiated our appetite. Friendly staff seated us in a booth and quickly took our order. Very comfortable atmosphere for families and couples. An antique looking Western-prairie bar presents itself at the entrance (with those cloudy mirrors behind the liquor that you might expect to see in a John Wayne movie). The bar would provide great seating for those traveling solo. My children, wife and I on the other hand, we packed into the spacious booths and immediately noticed the rustic brick walls lined with hunting exploits--black bear, pheasant, elk, and bison. "I think it is looking at you!" My children giggled to each other. "No that one--Buffalo, right dad?--he's looking at you!" Boyd & Charlie's was a worthy stop for a traveling family. We intend to return, when we find ourselves passing...
